Carnival Ships for Katrina Victims.

I am wondering if the victims on the chartered ships receive carnival food and amenities or just the bare necessities?

There are no "victims" on the chartered ships. The ships were used for emergency workers instead when Katrina survivors expressed little interest in being boarded on cruise ships...most were afraid of being over water (which is understandable).

The plan was to turn the public rooms into classrooms, the casino would go dark (as if on port days), and there there would be dining...but no dining "experience".

Hopefully the emergency workers are receiving good food and a comfy bed. They deserve it.

When I first heard that they cancelled our cruise to give it to the evacuees, I was a little upset. (OK, alot upset) Then I heard they refused to go, I was so confused. ( and a little mad) Now that the rescue workers are on there, I hope Carnival gives them whatever they want. I hope that they, in the very least, find some comfort and security on the ship. God bless!!!

There's an article in today's NY Times at http://www.nytimes.com/2005/09/16/national/nationalspecial/16cruise.htmlThe online article has a photo of Sensation; the print version has a picture of Ecstacy docked at the Julia Street terminal.

This quote cracks me up:) :)

Never before had the company been asked to provide berths for an extended period. To do so, it rebooked 100,000 passengers on other cruises. Mr. Dickinson said that most were understanding, but that 5 percent were "really grumpy."

This may be changing for the Holiday... see link below (from BILOXI newspaper)...

The meals are hot. The gym is open. And with Rita coming into the Gulf, they might get a real cruise.

OH MAN - could you imagine! I hope Rita steers clear of the northern gulf coast - she has to end up somewhere... but somewhere ELSE would be best! Most of the models now show the storm curving up to Texas or Louisana by this coming weekend as at least a CAT 3 storm
