How does the casino operate?

Here's another tip. There are banks (usually online) that refund ATM fees. I have a non-interest checking account at such a bank. I'm transferring money to it so in case I need more cash, I can withdraw it from any ATM and not worry about the fee.

Yes, this is what I use as well.

Instead of bringing actual cash, get a certified check made out to yourself for the amount of money you want to bring. You need to put the cruise date, ship, and reservation number in the memo section. If you lose it, nobody should be able to deposit it without your signature. If you fax the front of it to the NCL Casino department in advance of your cruise, they will have the money ready onboard. Any left over money will be given back to you as a check from NCL.

There is no fee for this service other than whatever your bank charges for a certified check, which in my case was zero. Contact NCL's casino department to get all the details.

Too much work. Just bring the cash.

1. Bring your wads with you

2. Take some of your wads to AAA at home and buy travelers checks. Cash those as needed during the cruise. No fee to cash those.

3. Use your stateroom card to pull "cash" from your onboard account, 3% fee applies. The fee could be waived/reimbursed if you're a high level Casino at Sea player.

4. Tap that ATM onboard, pay fees when you withdraw and whatever your bank charges.

My plan is for #1 and #2 as a back up. But if I'm at the casino want play and don't have the cash on me. I'm not going to cry over a $0.15 charge with my $5 slot download. I draw a line at #4, but plenty of people use ATMs at the land casinos and I think those fees are higher, so to each his own.

#5 was the suggestion for a cashiers check. To me that one leaves too much cash hanging around. With travelers checks I can cash in small denominations ($50), not my entire stash. Also if the checks disappear I can have them replaced. If the cash goes missing it is gone forever.

That's what I did last cruise and it was fine on my solo trip.

This time I'll have "sponsorship" duties. The travelers checks provide a reserve fund and does so in a safe way. I may have a 13yo in and out of the safe so the checks just might keep me from getting angry on vacation.

That I can see. I don't want a 13yr old taking my gambling money away.
