william Posted June 29, 2015 #1 Share Posted June 29, 2015 Just got back on Friday from Bermuda. Will do my review in parts. Got to the port around 10:45. Was on board by 12:00. We dont like to check luggage. Made an announcement rooms were not ready but could leave bags in rooms. Went to are room and met are room steward Richard. He was still cleaning so we dropped bags off and left. Heading up on deck to the pool Bar and got a drink, they were making burgers and Fries had that for lunch. Walked around the ship it was still not that crowded yet. Made reservastions for Cagneys. Was already filling up. So if you want the specialty restaurants suggest you pre book them. This was my 3rd time on the Dawn. Food seemed to be better. Only ate in Cagneys one night. The rest of are meals we ate at the buffet. They had a different selection each night. Bar Service- This is my only complaint about the cruise. Bar service was horendus. Don't know if because of the new drink packages offered, they don't want to push drinks that much (or not at all). Use to get upset when you were by the pool in past yrs and every five minutes were asked if you wanted a drink. Not this cruise we always had to go to the outside bars by the pool to get are drinks. Always took 15-20 minutes for a drink at the outside bars. PERLY KINGS BAR- was also bad one night the waiter cleared the glasses off the table we sat down at. But he never came back to wiped the spilled beer off of it. Never came over to take are order. The other waitress was to busy singing karokee everynight, instead of taking peoples orders. The coffee bar- Husband lucks decaf coffee, actually can't have caffine. Eight times out of 10 the same waiter would always get his order wrong. Miss the days on this cruise that if you went to the same place every day, they would actually address you buy name and ask if you were having your usual drink. I was always so impressed by this. Over 2000 people on ship and at night waitress would address me by name and know which wine I wanted. Spinnager bar- If you got here early before a show and ordered it yourself was very fast. One night order a drink from waiter, was not that busy. Twenty minutes later brings my drink, tells me I will bring your card right back. Twenty minutes goes buy still dont have my card. Went to find him. Oh will bring it right over. I said NO would like it now, you have had it for twenty minutes. Gatsbys- Best bar and services on the ship. LOved ELana was always smiling. Got your drink quickly and was always accurate. Will continue later

william Posted June 29, 2015 Author #3 Share Posted June 29, 2015 Cabin- Was on Deck 8 cabin 8166. Swiched to an ocean front week before when priced dropped. BUt was at very back of the ship. Was a little worried because usualy it can be rough going out of Boston. This was the calmest cruise I ever had going out of Boston. Was not rocky the whole week. Cabin had lots of drawer and closet space. Best room steward in over 20yrs of cruising Richard. Was always visable and friendly. Entertainment- You have to see the Illusionist David Davinci he works with his wife in the show. Get there 30 minutes before if you want a seat. One night got there 15 minutes before and it was all filled up had to leave the show room. Think he is on board until November. Newlywed game is always fun to watch, but they realy need to change their questions up. Have had the same questions for over 15yrs. We put are name in to play but did not get picked. If we did get picked we would of won since they were old questions. Second City- Just saw one of the shows which was good. Bermuda- This was my 12th trip to Bermuda and the best weather ever. Sunny and hot everyday. We got to Bermuda around 11:00 did not want to wait in line to get off , so just waited till the line cleared. Went and got are 2 day transportation pass. Just made it on the ferry to hamilton. Ferry was empty. Talked to a nice couple that have lived in Bermuda for 9 yrs. Found it interesting that even thought their two kids were born in Bermuda, they do not have citizenship. When they came over on their work visa they have to sign a form that states that if they have childeren born while in Bermuda, they do not have citizenship. Most shops are closed on Sunday in hamilton. Had a drink at a bar then took the bus to the crystal caves. We had not seen these in awhile, and there are now 2 caves. Tours were very imformative. Second tour quide was better for the original cave went into more detail. The other tour guide to just be going through the motions of his job. After the caves finially made it for the 1st time to the Swizzle Inn. Good drink and fun place. Then waited for a bus back to hamilton. Had a crazy bus driver that went very fast. But made are 4:00 ferry just in time back to the dockyard. Next day to the ferry to St George. Get there early for ferry. Got there at 8:45 for 9:30 ferry was already a line. Did some shopping, then had a drink in the white horse tarven. Walked to tobacco bay, not croweded at all. Went swimming, got some sun. Had a good lunch there. Then took a walk over to St catherines. Did not see horseshoe bay this trip. But heard from many people that it was very crowded on Sunday. The last day we like to stick around dockyard. Saw people swim with dolphins, did some shopping. Had a drink at the Frog and Onion. This day was the hottest, so we decided to go back to ship around 1:00. Lots of people had the same idea. Leaving Bermuda we love to watch over the deck for the late people coming back to the ship. You had to be back by 5:00. Which I believe is later then other years. I thought is was 3:00 in the past might be wrong. Well at 5:00 they start paging four names. Every trip there are always a couple. Never get it over 2000 people get back on time and there are always a few. I think they should wait ten minutes then leave. Well usually in past trips people are only a few minutes late. It is now over twenty minutes. Still paging them. We look down and see one of the officers with 4 passports in her hand. We are like wow they are going to miss there ship. Then you see a van pulling up with two people, it is now 5:25. Five minutes later a moped is coming up with a police escort and just makes it on board. I hope this people get some ramifications for holding up the ship. Great trip pulled into Boston at 7:00. We walk off are luggage to get off first. Started letting people off at 8:00. Got a cab and was home at 8:45. Please feel free to post any questions
jreardon1918 Posted June 29, 2015 #4 Share Posted June 29, 2015 We leave on the Dawn in a few days. Did you try additional tipping to get the servers to remember you on a more regular basis? That is a strategy I have used to great success. We sailed on Carnival last November and we found that the servers all seemed to know our names. As if there had been a recent crew training. I must say they were great. Any other recommendations for us. We live just south of Boston, so travel to the port should be easy. We are thrilled to finally do a cruise with no air arrangements. william Posted June 30, 2015 Author #8 Share Posted June 30, 2015 No J reardon did not try additional tipping. Don't think it would of mattered. If anthing felt like taking tips off. Only reason we did not because are room steward and buffet serverses were great.
JENNIEB Posted June 30, 2015 #9 Share Posted June 30, 2015 Welcome back! Glad u had a nice time. We have been on the cruise about 4xs but I don't have the answer to this. We are going in Sept 2015. Have a question regarding the murder mystery lunch with the 2nd city group. I cant remember but is that only offered 1x on the cruise on a Sat? I thought it was offered 2xs but I could be wrong. Any info would be great. And has anyone done this before? My mom is interested in going. We have never attended it. Thanks in advance.
heavenlysea Posted June 30, 2015 #10 Share Posted June 30, 2015 Which side of Dawn faces the ocean while docked in Bermuda?
phoenix1181 Posted June 30, 2015 #11 Share Posted June 30, 2015 Which side of Dawn faces the ocean while docked in Bermuda? The side that doesn't face the dock! :D Sorry, I couldn't resist............. I asked this same question recently & have been checking the web cam & it appears to be the luck of the draw. I've seen it docked on both port & starboard sides but haven't been able to identify if there's any rhyme or reason to which side they use.
