santacap Posted June 30, 2015 #1 Share Posted June 30, 2015 Booked in Canadian funds and to avoid any additional fees on board we are looking at adding OBC certificates to the booking before we sail (about 9 cents on the dollar saved). Question is, if there is a remaining balance at the end of the cruise does this get sent via check (cheque :)) or another way? any tips or other help in other ways to save via exchange rate is much appreciated

Rare www3traveler Posted June 30, 2015 #3 Share Posted June 30, 2015 Some OBC is refundable and others not. Let's say that you purchase a Cruise Reward and receive $100 and you only spend $50 of it. The remaining $50 would deducted from your preliminary statement that you would receive the last morning of the cruise. I am not sure exactly with Canadian funds how that would work. When you purchase your Cruise Reward, I would ask the Cruise Consultant, that person would know or could find out how Canadian funds would work. santacap Posted June 30, 2015 Author #4 Share Posted June 30, 2015 what I am looking at is this example, just for clarity i'll use round numbers. If I buy 1000.00 in the OBC from ncl.com in certificates that will cost me Just under 1200.00 Canadian funds. If I spent 1000.00 on the cruise my credit card would show a charge of 1300.00. So by doing so I would save 100.00 which IMO any savings is good savings. Now... on that cruise if I only spent 800.00, leaving 200.00 in OBC that 200 would be mailed out? or is it gone? phoenix1181 Posted June 30, 2015 #7 Share Posted June 30, 2015 You can get it in cash (US) @ the end of your cruise from Guest Services or they will credit it to the credit card you secure your account with. If you have a cash account, I believe they will send a check. If it was me, I'd get the cash on the last night of the cruise.

You will either get a check back in US funds (on the last morning) that you can cash before leaving the ship, or you will get a credit back to the CC that you used to secure your on board account. With that much OBC there is not gong to be a need to secure your account with a CC, so you should get a check. BTW the OBC that you describe is fully refundable. canuck059 Posted June 30, 2015 #10 Share Posted June 30, 2015 We bought OBC for our RCI cruise this spring for the same reason and it worked out well. In our case, we had a 'cash account' on board meaning no credit card info was linked to the account. Not only did we get unused cash back (US$) the last night but because we had a cash account, we were able to withdraw cash at the casino anytime after the first night without the (3%?) surcharge. I don't know if this applies to NCL also but you might want to inquire so that you can withdraw cash for spending on shore, etc. If you deplete your cash account, you can always give them credit card info then.
