MaiTaiMary Posted July 13, 2015 #1 Share Posted July 13, 2015 I'm going to book a shore excursion with Carnival. Should I expect that payment to immediately be on my charge card? Or do they wait closer to sailing date? I believe we are 40 days away from sailing. thanks! :)

OCruisers Posted July 14, 2015 #6 Share Posted July 14, 2015 "Too Bad ... So Sad" (as our grandchildren would say....) Unfortunately, on Carnival they must be immediately charged to your credit card. :( Carnival is not alone. Most mass market cruise lines do it that way. Princess is the only one I know that allows you to book shore excursions in advance and not change until you are actually on the ship. coevan Posted July 14, 2015 #7 Share Posted July 14, 2015 want to save almost 50%, book it on your own, my son is a Captain in St. Thomas and Carnival adds a hefty booking fee to the actual excursion price

You book the excursions ahead of time and they are charged to the onboard account.
kelkel2 Posted July 15, 2015 #11 Share Posted July 15, 2015 Yes they're charged immediately upon booking. I prefer it this way though. I don't want extra stuff ending up on my sign and sail. It's also why I pre-pay my gratuities.

It's really good to know the ones that have this option and those that don't. Glad to hear MSC does. :) LuLu
Rare momin05 Posted July 15, 2015 #13 Share Posted July 15, 2015 And if you have to cancel your cruise for some reason, are you refunded the charge for the shore excursion?
OCruisers Posted July 15, 2015 #14 Share Posted July 15, 2015 And if you have to cancel your cruise for some reason, are you refunded the charge for the shore excursion? Yes, as long as it's done within the cancellation time frame. No problem!
near the beach Posted July 15, 2015 #15 Share Posted July 15, 2015 On Carnival when you book on line you pay at the time of booking. Disney doesn’t charge you when you book on line. Which is a problem because people book excursions just to save them if they may want to use them. You can cancel a booked excursion up to a couple of days before the cruise. If you are going to cancel a cruise you may want to cancel your excursions first.
Lunur Posted July 15, 2015 #16 Share Posted July 15, 2015 Yes, cancellations on shore excursions are permitted and refunded within a certain time frame. You can also cancel onboard, but will incur penalties.

Profitable businesses don't stay in business very long if they don't make a profit. There are also many benefits and behind the scenes costs associated with contracting with an excursion vendor that increases the costs to a cruiseline sold excursion.
