js4rq Posted July 15, 2015 #1 Share Posted July 15, 2015 We are booked on Norwegian Pearl and have decided to go with the UBP from the current promotion. I read that the 15% gratuity is included, with the UBP. Does that apply to this promotion as well? The reason I ask is there is a "Choice Promotion Service Charge" of $213.84 on Cruise planner. Thanks for your help!
js4rq Posted July 15, 2015 Author #2 Share Posted July 15, 2015 Just found this under the T&C: **80% discount results out of Service Charge for the respective package which is added for all categories except Suites & the Haven at time of booking. For a 7-day cruise that charge is; Ultimate Dining-US $ 21.42, Ultimate Beverage-US $ 68.04, Soda Package-US $ 8.19. Bummer, now to decide whether to stay with the UBP or swap for another offer. We don't drink much, so can't fathom paying the service charge. Decisions, decisions.

If that really is the case, then by all means you should change the promo. Edit: Also the gratuities are never included to the price of UBP - the price is $54/$59 (prepaid/onboard) per day plus the 18% gratuity on top of that package price. Rare sid_9169 Posted July 15, 2015 #4 Share Posted July 15, 2015 The UBP is still an awesome deal, even with the 18% gratuity... Even if you only have 2 drinks per day, you will come out way ahead...
Quilting_Cruiser Posted July 15, 2015 #5 Share Posted July 15, 2015 Bummer, now to decide whether to stay with the UBP or swap for another offer. We don't drink much, so can't fathom paying the service charge. Decisions, decisions. I would consider what you usually do on cruises and see which promotion would work best for you. The UBP wouldn't work for me either. I have a glass of wine with dinner on occasion, and have never had a bar bill as high as the gratuities on the UBP. I don't book excursions through the ship, so that would leave me with internet minutes or UDP. For me, UDP makes the most sense as I love the variety of restaurants. What do you normally do? That will hopefully point to the answer for you. :)
Rare mizLORInj Posted July 15, 2015 #6 Share Posted July 15, 2015 if you booked just recently (as we did), the gratuities for the "free" UBP promotion are no longer included and need to be prepaid.
NLH Arizona Posted July 15, 2015 #7 Share Posted July 15, 2015 Whether the 18% gratuity is included or not, depends on when you booked your cruise.
UandMe4Ever Posted July 15, 2015 #8 Share Posted July 15, 2015 I believe with the UDP, there is an 18% upfront fee with booking or before final. So much for free.
js4rq Posted July 15, 2015 Author #9 Share Posted July 15, 2015 Thanks for the replies everyone. We already had a booking but decided to upgrade to an oceanview cabin, so we could get the UDP only to realise the service charge isn't included. We would probably only have a drink here and there. The shore excursion credit sounds good - with $75 for each port, up to 7 ports. I had a look at the excursions available for our 7 ports and we would possibly book with NCL for as least 4 ports. Certainly something to think about. Thanks again! :)
Demonyte Posted July 15, 2015 #10 Share Posted July 15, 2015 The shore excursion credit sounds good - with $75 for each port, up to 7 ports. Per terms and conditions of the promo it is limited to four ports. http://www.ncl.com/termsandconditions/wavejune15 P.S. You keep repeatedly confusing UBP and UDP in your posts. You keep repeatedly confusing UBP and UDP in your posts. I'm not sure where I read that it was 7 ports. Looks like the shore excursion credit would be more beneficial for us over the UBP. Cheers for the link. :)
