Need advice on what to do in Nassau

We're heading out on Sunday and it's been years since I've been to Nassau. Can anyone give good advice on what to do? I've looked at the reviews on the Carnival excursions and it doesn't look like there are any stand outs. I'd like to keep it reasonable ($$$ wise) and I'd like to be able to go somewhere that we don't get bombarded by people trying to sell us everything.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!!

Most of the bombarding folks to buy that we have seen in Nassau occurs right at the port area. Get away from there and there is a lot to do and see in Nassau. In fact, get away from the port area in most stops in the Caribbean and Bahamas. It just depends on what you are looking for: laying in a beach? watersports? history? sampling local cuisine?

On our last stop in Nassau, we did a self-guided walking tour I found Online. Got to see and experience several interesting historical sites and buildings, and did not cost a thing! We had lunch at Twin Brothers over at Arawak Cay (often called "The Fish Fry") which was fantastic! Then swam and hung out for a coupe of hours at Junkanoo Beach which also costs nothing. Greta day and all we paid for was lunch.

We went on a nice walk when we were in Nassau.

First, we walked to the pirate museum (small entry fee), then we walked to the zoo (small entry fee). We bought a few snacks at the zoo.

There are a few vendors that are going to try to sell you stuff as you leave the ship area, and some barkers trying to get you into their shops/restaurants as you walk to the pirate museum, but mostly we were unaccosted. There was almost no one on the walk towards the zoo.

It was a lovely day.

Agree Nassau not among my favorites. Port is very commercial as said. So get an excursion or tour either through Carnival or private if want to see the island again. Blue Lagoon is nice. Either as a beach day or if you haven't done a dolphin encounter or swim. Last time in Nassau did the Day Pass at the British Colonial Hilton which was very nice and not a long walk.

Hope this helps.

If you've never been there, get off the ship and look around.

This was the first place in the Caribbean I have ever been to. All this being a new experience to me, I loved it!

Now, I consider whether to leave the ship, or not........

This being said, I leave it up to you to decide.;)

Thank you all for your advice. Do they still have the water taxi's that go over to the Atlantis Casino?

They did as of a few years ago, so I'm sure they still do now. What an adventure! And not in a great way.

Hunny's first time to Nassau we didn't do an excursion. We walked up and down Bay Street...is that right, Bay street? After checking out all the shops, we did the same with a few of the back roads parallel to it and just took things in. We found a local (not touristy) joint to have lunch in and took a cab to (and water taxi back from) Atlantis before heading back to the ship. The cab ride there was scary. The water taxi ride back was worse.

We like Nassau, very walkable and some neat historical things to see, they have a fort, there is Victoris's stairs, the straw market ( but you will be bugged here) and the pirate museum is cool.

Nassau is a terrible port of call. After a few visits, I agree that staying on the ship is a good strategy.

Your best bet would be to check the Nassau Port of Call board.

Fixed it for ya!

As of April, they still had water taxi. We usually just get a cab and go over to Atlantis to the Casino. If you've never been to Atlantis, they give tours of the property, a little pricey, but its nice to see at least one time. First time we went it was under construction so didn't cost anything. Next time it was finished so took the tour. No need to do it again, but they do have a nice casino!

When you say Walkable what do you mean?? I sometimes have some back problems and cant walk really far. Is it only a few blocks or is it a few miles?

Thanks= trying to decide if we want to try to walk or if we should get transportation. We would like to see some of the history, did you feel safe there? It would be 3 women.

Thanks again
