ColoradoGurl Posted July 22, 2015 #2 Share Posted July 22, 2015 Not sure but I have one on my list that I've come across through reading reviews, so maybe it will ring a bell. It's called La Sucriere and it's a French bakery on the Dutch side. I thought I had another one but I can't find it.

ColoradoGurl Posted July 22, 2015 #5 Share Posted July 22, 2015 Thanks but I know it was on the french side we went to it on the Bernard tour a couple years ago You might be able to find out the name by looking at the St Maarten thread under the port of call forums. There's probably quite a few threads about Bernard's tours and I'd be willing to bet one of them mentions the restaurant. You might even look up Bernard's on trip advisor and get the name from one of those reviews.

ColoradoGurl Posted July 22, 2015 #7 Share Posted July 22, 2015 (edited) Thanks Coloradogurl!! No problem. I did a quick search because I'm bored and it looks like the above poster is correct, it's called Sarafina's. That's where they take people for lunch anyway. dacsmom Posted July 26, 2015 #12 Share Posted July 26, 2015 Sarafina in Marigot, and it was fantastic. I can understand why it is one of the best pastry shops in the world. Even if you do not buy anything just looking around is worth the trip.
gtaylor Posted July 27, 2015 #13 Share Posted July 27, 2015 <snip> Also we dont want to do a tour has anyone just gotten off the boat and gotten a van/cab we will be 10 people how much should it cost per person Thanks in advance for the info Your group can easily grab a taxi at the dispatch area inside the Cruise Facility. I believe that these rates are still valid, but MAY have increased by a dollar or so. $7 per person each way. (click) gary

Even if you do not buy anything just looking around is worth the trip. OK, not to disparage Sarafina's, which is an excellent place, but I'd love to know where the designation of 'one of the best in the world' came from? (click) The local (Dutch side) newspaper, the Daily Herald, does an annual survey of their readers. In this year's results, Sarafina's came in Third in the Best Bakery voting. We like La Sucriere, but our favorite is Taste Factory, both on the Dutch side. If you cross the Dutch-side lift bridge, then you've gone past both of them. gary p.s. karysa and I have had a discussion about how these results could come about, and perhaps most of the readers of The Daily Herald are Dutch-side residents who don't get over to the French side that often. p.p.s. Free WiFi at Taste Factory, not sure about the other two. :)
1bets1 Posted July 28, 2015 #15 Share Posted July 28, 2015 Darn. I'm going to be there on a Monday when Serafinas is closed. Any suggestions on where to grab a bite? I'm doing Bernards tour #2.
amyj23 Posted July 28, 2015 #16 Share Posted July 28, 2015 I'm so glad I found this thread. We've been to St Maarten twice and we had no idea what we were going to do this time. I was trying to think of something different to do. I think we'll go here for lunch! I thought you may want this link if you hadn't already been on Tripadvisor: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g147348-d1754928-Reviews-Sarafina_s-Marigot_Saint_Martin_St_Maarten_St_Martin.html There's almost 200 pictures of delicious looking food porn! kenevenpar Posted July 30, 2015 #18 Share Posted July 30, 2015 Many on TA indicate that the staff is rude. Did anyone notice that, or was it just some malcontents?
amyj23 Posted July 30, 2015 #19 Share Posted July 30, 2015 Many on TA indicate that the staff is rude. Did anyone notice that, or was it just some malcontents? I did notice that. It was pretty glaring... I guess it seems like most restaurants I go to outside of the U.S. don't have great customer service. I thought, if the food was amazing, I'd ignore it. :D
ColoradoGurl Posted July 30, 2015 #20 Share Posted July 30, 2015 Many on TA indicate that the staff is rude. Did anyone notice that, or was it just some malcontents? Yep I noticed that as well, which is a shame because I don't like rewarding bad customer service with my business, but hopefully it's just a matter of cultural differences...this is a blanket statement and certainly doesn't apply to everyone, but in my experience the French arent the warmest people, at least in comparison to what I'm used to at home. Trend Posted July 31, 2015 #21 Share Posted July 31, 2015 Just left my stomach there a few weeks ago. Our tour guide had us stop with our grandson and family. We were treated nicer by the staff then the customers who lined up pushing ahead of me as I am quite small. This is the best pastries I have ever had and we all agreed. Karysa Posted August 1, 2015 #22 Share Posted August 1, 2015 Never had a warm and fuzzy experience at Serafina's EVER but the iced coffee is fantastic and the breads, pastries and croissants excellent so we just don't worry about the staff or the French patrons and get a giggle out of their "not so friendly" attitudes. Karysa Posted August 2, 2015 #24 Share Posted August 2, 2015 Zee Best which is a bakery cafe chain on the island has a great slogan which goes along with the recent posts on this thread. It's "French food without the attitude" :D
