Deck desirability

I was looking at the deck plan for the Zuiderdam and noticed that the VB and VC balcony cabins on deck 5 are VC and VD in the same locations on deck 6. Does anyone know why deck 6 would be categorized lower? I was under the impression that higher decks were considered more desirable.

The lifeboats are on deck 4, but the cabins in question are located either forward or aft and the lifeboats aren't, so I wouldn't think that would be a factor.

Lifeboats are outside the deck 4 cabins, so I'd think 6 would be more desirable than 5. A bit farther than the orange glow.

That's "old school". :) It used to be that the VAs were on decks 7&8, VBs on 6, VCs on 5, VDs on 4, and VEs on 5 above the lifeboats.

 

Since the re-categorization they've decided that those high up and on the ends are the least desirable, and the deck 5 center with the small balconies and over the lifeboats are the "best"!!

 

Now it's all about what sells best.

 

DW and I like high-up for the view, so we are happy to take the cheaper "undesirable" VE and VF that are now on deck 8!

On a related note, I was just looking at the deck plan for Deck 6 again, and noticed that in the forward section going toward the bow the cabin categories are VC, followed by a few VB cabins, and then VD cabins all the way forward after that.

 

Why do they have a few VB cabins forward of the VC cabins? What would make them more attractive than the VC's which are slightly more centrally located?

We had a VF verendah on deck 8, but very close to the bridge. For us, it was a great location: very quiet (below the spa) and only one stair for reaching the Lido deck. It's a longer walk to the MDR, but that was no problem. The only disadvantage is that you don't have a light on your verandah due to navigation purposes if you're close to the bridge (the light is siwtched off).
