Hotwire areas to choose in Galveston

Hi all! Looking at hotels on Hotwire. I'm not familiar with Galveston at all, so I'm trying to figure out which areas are more ideal for getting to the cruise port in the morning. We will be sailing the Carnival Magic on January 30th. We'll be getting in early evening and want an area that getting to/from dinner and then to the port won't be too difficult. We will not have a car.

 

Open to other suggestions than Hotwire also. But trying to keep it lower priced since we will just be there less than half a day.

Mardi Gras first weekend is that weekend! If you wAnt to enjoy check routes and participate .

Main areas to stay in Galveston

1. On the Gulf (Seawall)(many motels and hotels)

2. On the Bay (Moody Gardens Hotel))

3. Downtown Old Town Historic District by Port –

Only (Harbor House and Tremont)

4. On highway coming into town(few)

 

All are close to terminal.

Hotel area is 2 miles wide and around 80 blocks long.

In my opinion

San Luis, Hilton, Moody Gardens, Tremont, Galvez and Harbor House

are the better hotels.

Many other nice ones obviously!

We used hotels.com to compare and contrast and ultimately found a great rate for 2 queen beds across from the pleasure pier at Country Inn and Suites - it seems to be a $15-20 cab ride to the Magic -

I love the San Luis but like Hilton it seems to require a 2 night stay and it will cost 300 a night, but super hotel with nice steak restaurant and piano bar.

With Mardi Gras starting that week you need to book NOW. There is a huge rate hike then too. I was looking at prices today. I could get a room for $90 for next week and the same room was $275 for late November. You need to get it done.
