On our Aug '15 NCL Breakaway cruise, the MDR food and service was much improved over our cruise 18 months ago. We traveled with relatives that usual cruise on Princess or Celebrity. They were impressed with the MDR food as well as the many dining venue choices and the quality of the food in the specialties. In addition they really liked the entertainment, both main showroom and the clubs and lounges.

All that said, they prefer traditional set seating dining at a table of 8 or so for dinners and would only do NCL again if cruising with family or friends.

Here are a few of the things that NCL charges for that the other cruise lines don't:

1) Lobster is no longer served in the main dining room. Can get it for the pay-extra dining rooms.

2) corkage fee for the first bottle of wine per person brought on board. EVERY other cruise line permits one for person.

3) Indoor hot tub (huge fee we refused to pay) in the spa (NCL charges, others like Carnival don't). this is especially important on days at sea for winter cruises leaving New York.

4) room service if you don't get a suite

5) Fees for more than half of their shows

6) when we first went on the Dawn, the Tex Mex and Italian restaurants were included. Now you pay extra for every dining room, except the main dining room, which scaled back its more expensive offerings. (Sorry I have cruised long enough to be able to document their subtle changes, especially since the private equity firm took over).

PLUS:

1) You sometimes must wait up to 45 minutes for a table at an inclusive restaurant. Sometimes not, but it is not predictable and very annoying

DID I MISS ANYTHING? ANYONE WANT TO ADD TO THIS LIST?
