ryano Posted August 19, 2015 #26 Share Posted August 19, 2015 (edited) On my last cruise there were at least 6 dogs on board, and 2 of them at least were not service animals (the others all claimed to be, but I had my doubts about 2 of the others as well). So, for those saying you wouldn't cruise with dogs - watch out, they're already on board! I didn't go looking for it, but one of the owners told me there was a special "sandbox" hidden away discreetly on an outside deck somewhere. Wait till people start bringing their service ponies if you're worried about poop :) http://www.guidehorse.com/ In terms of future enhancements - they've already taken a good step with RoyalIQ. I haven't tried it out yet, but it sounds like a good start. For ships with RFID doors (Quantum?) that use the bracelets, the next logical step (for me) would be to allow you to use your phone on the door instead. A two storey swimming pool where people can learn scuba diving is doable. A Big Wheel (London Eye type of thing) could fit on the back of the aqua theatre area on the Oasis class ships - it would be one step on from the North Star. On a less grand scale, plumbed in-room coffee/tea makers wouldn't be a big stretch. Most balconies could be fitted a roll top style clear cover (think of a garage door, or a bureau) that would turn the balcony into a kind of sun room during less great weather. Either have it work by key, and ask your cabin steward to raise/lower it, or allow customers to operate it themselves with a button (more likely to lead to damage). The one thing I always think they're missing are those old machines that would print out x business cards for €5 (or whatever). Towards the end of cruises you always see people scrabbling for bits of paper to exchange contact details. Have one of those near customer services and I'd say people would pay for it. No worries. ADA does NOT recognize service horses or any other "service animal" other than dogs and since the cruise lines only have to follow ADA guidelines, they certainly DO NOT have to let a "service horse" on board ;) And yes, you are right, people abuse the system to bring their pets on board. Even as a owner of a REAL service dog, she stays at home when I cruise. Its just too much hassle getting clearance to disembark the ship at the ports and honestly, just like with children, I need a break once in a while! The Sunset Glow Posted August 19, 2015 #28 Share Posted August 19, 2015 I think in 10 years you will see: - mostly self serve check ins at the pier like the airports have now. - free (included, nothing is free:rolleyes:) wifi - inclusive packages in levels (traditional food offerings vs specialty, alcohol vs non, etc) - no smoking in the casino (hopefully sooner than 10 years:cool:) - more suite only areas like a pool....steerage class will be back:eek:
AtlantaAlly Posted August 19, 2015 #29 Share Posted August 19, 2015 Some random things that I feel they may just add because they're that crazy (and getting to be that out of control) 1) moving sidewalks for the hallways, because the ships will be 10,000 feet long and a walk to the windjammer may take 3 hours from the front of the ship. 2) Bungee jumping from the 28th deck 3) Full roller coaster, because just being sea sick isn't enough, throw in some roller coaster sickness and you've got perfection. 4) McDonalds 5) Robotic room service delivery 6) Over water bungalos that stretch out like little arms from the ship so when in port, people can just jump right in the water and climb back up! 7) Hookah Lounge 8) The list of absurd can keep going and going and going... north29 Posted August 19, 2015 #30 Share Posted August 19, 2015 This for just one type of Mega ship, that will be a floating vacation. 1. LARGE all inclusive ships that go no where or maybe just one port for fuel and supplies, they just stay at sea. These ships will have everything that you can get on land, except the true cultural experience of the ports, well food could be cultural and each type of this ship could have different themes like Greek, France, or just European and yes Martha, American 2. Yes Ms Vonn, a ski slope, most likely not with real snow, but something similar and yes as cold as the ice rink. 3. First line entertainers, Swift, Beyonce etc, please not Bieber LOL 4. A real beach, not just a plain POOL and yes there will be just plain pools. 5. Enough elbow room that you can find a reasonable quiet place to relax. I could go on but some will get the idea. cincicruisers Posted August 19, 2015 #32 Share Posted August 19, 2015 In 10 years I hope that RCCL adds the following 1) No smoking in casino 2) Builds smaller (Radiance class) ships and introduces complete all inclusive rate that is simple to institute. All dining, drinks, Internet, and a spa treatment. 3) Tipping will only be done in advance. No additional tips period. ( we kind of have that now, but most are still looking for additional tips) 4) New varied dining options.
TheGinBoy Posted August 19, 2015 #33 Share Posted August 19, 2015 I'd just like to see fresh seafood.... Seriously, that's too much to ask? I'd love that too. Always find it bizarre and frustrating that we're on a giant boat in the middle of the *sea* calling at all these fishing ports and there is so little fish and seafood on any of the menus. steveru621 Posted August 19, 2015 #34 Share Posted August 19, 2015 In ten years... Maybe the TV programming (or shows) will actually be in HD to match those flat screens in every cabin. Robot room service. Voom on every ship. Virtual entertainment in the smaller venues via HD screens. Some free first run movies in the main theater to replace the juggling acts. Some chain restaurant will convince RCI to lease it space on a ship. Like J. Rockets and Starbucks already do. More ships powered by natural gas. (like radiance class)
JG-TX Posted August 19, 2015 #35 Share Posted August 19, 2015 Queen Mary 2 allows non-service dogs on their transatlantic crossings. From their site: Are dogs welcome? Queen Mary 2’s kennel programme is available on all Transatlantic Crossings between New York and Southampton in either direction, and is managed by a full-time Kennel Master who takes care of responsibilities such as feeding, walking and cleaning the ship’s 12 spacious kennels. Travelling dogs and cats also receive a complimentary gift pack. The kennels and adjacent indoor and outdoor walking areas are open throughout the day, enabling guests to spend significant time with their pets. Reservations for the kennels may be made at time of booking, and are based on availability. Contact Cunard for fees, details and additional requirements. All animals must be in compliance with the Pets Travel Scheme and in possession of a pet passport. To make kennel arrangements call (800) 728-6273. Goodtime Cruizin Posted August 19, 2015 #37 Share Posted August 19, 2015 1. A flat rate fee for international calling/texting while on ship. 2. Inter-active touch screens everywhere to reserve specific meals/menus, dinner tables, shows, self check in, self dis-embark etc. 3. Non Smoking Ships 4. Smoking Ships 5. Helicopter rides from heilport. 6. Transferable Loyalty program for a cost/fee 7. Marajuana sales (well maybe not 10 years) 8. Roller Coasters (someone mentioned this and I think they're spot on) 9. DirecTV, Dish or some sort in every cabin. 10. Free Wi-Fi

knittinggirl Posted August 19, 2015 #44 Share Posted August 19, 2015 (edited) I would love to have true high-speed wireless internet at a reasonable price. Me too, and NO extra cost! By then, Wireless internet may be obsolete, and they'll be offering something else, still at no extra cost. 20% larger rooms across all categories, and 20% fewer passengers. Thoie Posted August 19, 2015 #45 Share Posted August 19, 2015 Race car simulator Freefall High wire Boxing Guitar Hero I thought there was a race car simulator in the arcade, but I could be wrong. Is the iFly thing similar to Freefall? The Oasis class have a zip wire - close enough to a high wire? One of the ships definitely has a boxing ring in the gym - Independence or Allure, can't remember which. The Allure had a Guitar Hero league on the TA - I was too late to join :)

LeDemonBlond Posted August 20, 2015 #47 Share Posted August 20, 2015 I would think they would offer a better Wi-Fi experience. If not a way to use the internet, at least a way to better communicate to others on the ship and a way for the ship to better communicate to its patrons. Its going to take a cruise line offering free wifi as part of their experience to get the other cruise lines to fall in step. I'm all for cruise ships being more greener and I see that continuing. Its just good business.
