sparklymermaid Posted August 20, 2015 #1 Share Posted August 20, 2015 Hi, I have checked trip advisor and cruise critic. Is it better to prebook the taxi, and if so which company? There are a lot of negative remarks. Also I cannot quite grab if it is supposed to be a standard cost from the airport to any hotel.:)
Emma Posted August 20, 2015 #2 Share Posted August 20, 2015 Sorry i cannot recommend a taxi, but i can tell you that we were there in May and I was so sorry that I had not prebooked a taxi. The lines were extremly long for a taxi, there were 6 or 7 ships in port that day, in the future I would reserve transport before arrival. We ended up taking the crowded port bus , with our luggage, to downtown where we got a taxi. Maureen
MADflyer Posted August 20, 2015 #3 Share Posted August 20, 2015 Hi, I have checked trip advisor and cruise critic. Is it better to prebook the taxi, and if so which company? There are a lot of negative remarks. Also I cannot quite grab if it is supposed to be a standard cost from the airport to any hotel.:) You do not need to book a taxi in Barcelona and will pay a fee if you do. Taxis are metered and unlike Madrid where they have a fixed price to anywhere in the city, Barcelona have kept a variable system with an estimated total of 29 euro to the center of Barcelona. You then pay 1 euro per bag as well. Barcelona this year did implement a 39 euro all inclusive fare to the port from the airport and for the return. While the time and kilometer part of the metered fare could have some drivers 'padding' a far by taking a longer route, it is not a big problem in Barcelona and only results in 1 or 2 euros for the driver. As taxis automatically have a minimum fare of 20 euro from the airport no matter what reads on the meter, some opt to take the A1 or A2 airport bus to the center and then transfer to a taxi to their hotel. If you are 2 or more the savings become minimal as the bus is 5.90 per person and then you will have at least a 7 to 12 euro taxi to the hotel depending on location. Many hotels are near the A1/A2 Aerobus stops.
NMLady Posted August 20, 2015 #4 Share Posted August 20, 2015 Is queue long at port for taxi after disembarkation? My husband cannot stand long, due to knee problems. About how much should we expect to pay for taxi from port to hotel near Plaza Catalunya on Las Ramblas?
Rare Keith1010 Posted August 20, 2015 #5 Share Posted August 20, 2015 It is so easy to get a taxi at the airport. No need to pre-book it. Keith

About how much should we expect to pay for taxi from port to hotel near Plaza Catalunya on Las Ramblas? Are you able to travel with a walker with a seat on it? If you disembark at a peak time you are looking at 20 to 30 minutes wait in line. The line will appear huge, but moves very quickly with 20+ taxis a minute departing each terminal. As far as the airport goes they have a mobility program and you should notify the airport and your airline if needing assistance. https://wwwssl.aena.es/csee/Satellite?pagename=PMR&Language=EN_GB I am unaware of the port offering any Barrier Free services, but they should as it is the Spanish law to assist those with mobility issues. That will be a holiday in Spain as the 1st of May falls on a Sunday this year. That means that taxi fares will be the highest fare, just like a Sunday as well. Just getting in a taxi will charge at a minimum Port fee 4.20 T3 base fare 2.30 4 km at 5.60 Time for trip 2.20 Total 14.30 and 1 euro for each bag. The port bus would cost you 2.50 each and then a taxi up la Rambla would be: Might have to walk a little to taxi rank at maybe 2 to 5 minutes as no taxi right at the bus. Really not worth it for 1 or 2 passengers. T3 2.30 2 km 2.80 time 1.80 Total 6.90 minimum and 1 euro for each bag.

He does not own a rollator and not renting one since not needed on ship. He walks with a cane. When we book airfare he always requests wheelchair. He also has wheelchair escort for disembarkation but I doubt they'd wait for taxi. I think your Norwegian Jade cruise arrives on Monday the 2nd of May, 2016. Thank you for all the info. Taking the bus wouldn't be possible because of coping with luggage. There's only my husband and I. I think our best bet is to reserve a ride that combines our transfer to hotel with a tour. The convenience will be worth the extra cost. I know of three recommended companies so will use one of those. Thank you both. Edited August 22, 2015 by NMLady

I am trying to enter info on the aena form on the website, but the box under "Departure Airport" that asks for "terminal area exit" turns blue and does not let me put any info in that space. The response says I have to enter info in all areas of that box and will not let me go any further. Any advice??

I would think that they are just wanting to know Terminal 1 or Terminal 2, but am unsure. Most regular carriers are at Terminal 1 and most low cost carriers are at terminal 2. http://www.aena.es/csee/Satellite/Aeropuerto-Barcelona/en/Page/1045569607375//List-of-airlines.html
razorkd Posted September 21, 2015 #13 Share Posted September 21, 2015 Any suggestions for transport from airport to hotel in town for 12 people with 9 of them being kids? Are there a fair number of taxis that seat 6 (I.e. Minivans) that we could split into two groups? Will have same issue going from hotel to port. While the number of taxis that can accommodate 6 passengers is grtowing rapidly, with about 10% of new taxis being the Dacia Lodgy, one problem with this is that 2 or the seats is in the baggage area and thus adding the extra passengers then limits the baggage somewhat. There are many taxis in the Barcelona fleet that can carry 6 passengers now, but the number that can carry passengers and full amounts of luggage is limited to about 400 of the 10500 taxis registered in Barcelona. The procedure works with large parties lining up in the normal line. When you get to the front, if they have a large taxi there they give it to you. Otherwise they have you stand in a secondary line to the side and as taxis arrive that can accommodate, they take from the secondary line. I would ask your hotel if they have any recommendations for 12 guests coming to the hotel.

Our host in Rome was able to secure transport for us so maybe our host in Barcelona can help. Thanks
