Email Today From Carnival

I have a cruise on Victory, this Saturday. Just got an email from Carnival today. Telling me I have a cruise coming very soon, and they just can't wait to welcome me aboard. OK, that's nice.

Then it says, the fun starts from the moment you step aboard, and an employee shows you to your cabin. WHAT?

This will be my 19th cruise with Carnival, and not once has an employee shown me to my cabin, or even told me where it was. Have I been missing something? Is this something new? Inquiring minds want to know.

Are you in a suite? When we booked an Owner's Suite on Ecstacy an couple of years ago (the upsell fairy was very persuasive), we were escorted onto the ship and taken to our cabin. That was listed as one of the suite's perks.

A good thing too. We'd have never found the cabin without someone taking us. The door was down a short, dark hall where you'd never expect. During the cruise we actually caught a couple of kids making out in our entry way.

Maybe they are referring to the staff in the red shirts on embarkation day that say, "Just Ask."

Although that would be a little bit of a stretch. Yea, they point and show you the way to your cabin. Lol.

Have a great cruise!

I too, remember those days well. I think Celebrity still does that, but of course, you pay for it in the end. ;) I never received that service on either my 25th, or 50th Milestone cruise.

Even Celebrity has stopped doing this, and least for non-suite passengers. With staterooms not generally available till 1:00PM that's a lot of folks that could not be escorted upon embarkation anyway, unless you have purchased FTTF.

I got the same email for my 8/22 Freedom cruise. Ill let you know if they actually do show me to my cabin. Do they even have enough staff to do this??

and before you ask. I am in a 1A cabin platinum member. So I get on the ship earlier, that might be when they show me to my cabin (Like after 29 cruises I wouldn't be able to find it)?

I just went back to my email from november last year, and it says nothing about anyone showing me too my cabin, all it said was they can't wait to welcome me aboard. maybe another new platinum perk? hahaha

Maybe it's a way to escort eligible passengers with early room availability and discourage others from following.

When we boarded last time with FTTF, a few folks did follow-and found out their cabins were not ready! LOL:p

I've never seen an email with the wording quite like that. It makes me think they have changed the wording lately. But again, like others have said. I have never had anyone escort me to my room or even offer or ask if I know where I am going.

If I remember correctly from last January, when we boarded I had my S&S card (Platinum) hanging around my neck, and the CCL employee stopped me and pointed to the correct elevators since we could go directly to the cabin. I was with the large group that boarded first - Diamond, Plats, suites, FTTF.

So no, we were not escorted to cabin but were shown we could go to the cabin.

I usually have to ask on embarkation how to get to my cabin. I have never been escorted to my cabin, just a few simple directions. For me that is sufficient. It will be interesting to hear if these passengers are actually escorted to their cabin. Probably not. A point in the right direction to the elevators should suffice for most people. The numbering of the decks and odd/even signs on the wall seem to work out just fine.
