rio wine purchase

Is there a liquor/wine store located near the pier in Rio. Thinking of purchasing right before boarding. Are prices comparable to US prices?

 

I can bring wine from home but am scheduled for a full day tour after dropping luggage off at the ship. Will not be checking in until after tour around 5 pm and would rather not lug same around all day.

He has mentioned that prices are higher than in the U.S.

Pretty much anything decent is imported.

 

The neighborhood around the cruise pier is not really one I would advise wandering around in to try to find local shops. The government is trying to tart up the area, but it is still in process.

The closest liquor store in a neighborhood you can walk in might be in Centro (go during business hours M-F only). Or taxi to Copacabana; lots of shops of all kinds and fairly safe.

Can't advise on a specific store. We usually buy by the drink at a bar or beach kiosk when in Rio as visitors, and tend to drink beer or caipirinhas as most Brazilians (except maybe the pretentious rich trying to seem European/American) tend to do. Y

our private tour guide can probably advise you about a place you might be passing.

Thanks for your input Vida. Was hoping there would be one as part of the shops at the pier as there is at other ports. Looks as if we will be carrying our wine on our tour of Rio.

At the pier there are no wine shops.

 

The only shops sell tourist items.
