Hospital on St. Thomas

Has anyone been in the hospital on St. Thomas? My daughter was just taken off the NCL ship in that port. She is in the ER , and is being evaluated. Does anyone know about the quality of the care in this hospital?

The hospital is a lot better than it used to be and many of the Doctors and nurses are visiting professionals from the states. They have the specialists to evaluate and treat patients, as well as the medical equipment.

 

I would not want to undergo brain surgery there or some complex procedure but they can handle most medical emergencies.

They have the same level of accreditation that most hospitals stateside have, by the same organization.

I have been there, but it has been long enough that my impression really isn't relevant. My Dr. when I lived on St. Thomas was fine.

 

This must be very stressful for you. Hoping & praying for a swift recovery for her.

Bill:The staff does not consist of "visiting professionals". Many are homegrown and the hospital has accreditation through Joint Commission as well as CMS.

Sorry if my post gave the impression that only visiting nurses and doctors are there That is not the case but staffing difficulties result in some visiting specialist. My wife was treated by a neurologist from Boston , as an example

The point being medical care is there for locals and visitors

A neurologist from Boston? This must have been some l-o-n-g while ago. David Weisher, M.D. (from Virginia) has been there 10-15 years.

My wife's emergency hospital visit was a long time ago. I think around 2003.

 

Other medical problems have been taken care of in the Clinic in Red Hook. Many of the those doctors are on short term stays but are good doctors.
