Has anyone used Geoblue? Prices are considerably less. Thanks!

It looks like all the provide is medical coverage. Probably why their prices are lower. If you are not concerned about cancelation of trip interruption, it looks like a good alternative.

We have used GeoBlue for several years and think its a great product for those who do a lot of travel. GeoBlue is part of the Bluecross/Blue Shield network which gives many a sense of confidence. But keep in mind they only offer Medical Insurance and trip evacuation. This is not a typical "travel insurance" policy since it has no cancellation insurance.

For us, the big attraction is that DW and I can purchase an annual policy for $349 (total cost for 2) which gives us $250,0000 or medical and $500.000 of trip evac. The policy covers the first 70 days of EVERY trip we take throughout the entire policy year. A side benefit is that the "Blues" do work with a world-wide network of providers which can really help ease payment issues if hospitalized in a foreign country.

We always like to warn that many trip insurance policies (especially those sold by most cruise lines) offer very little medical coverage. We are amazed at how many travelers are willing to spend 5-10% of their travel cost to insure the limited liability of cancellation (the cost you pay for the trip) while ignoring the nearly unlimited liability of medical. Nobody will be bankrupted by losing what they have already paid for a trip, but many folks have been put in the "poor house" because of excessive medical bills.

Don't you worry about the trip cancellation factor? What about medical waiver, do they offer this? hither, do you use any other insurance products?

Good questions. We do not worry about trip cancellations. If the worst happens and we lose what we paid for the trip we will survive (we were spending that money anyway). What I do worry about is paying all kinds of money for insurance...which we generally do not need :). As to Medical Waivers for pre-existing conditions our Annual GeoBlue policy specifically covers pre existing condtions. The one qualifier is that you must have other primary insurance, but they even accept Medicare which in practice is worthless outside the USA.

As to other insurance products, we do not use anything else when it comes to travel. And I would add that we were outside of the country nearly 7 months last year, and that single GeoBlue Policy covered every day of those trips (the longest was 62 days).

At the risk of editorializing, the issue comes down to each person's own comfort level when it comes to risk adversion. Some folks are willing to pay big bucks for maximum coverage (which is how rental car companies get folks to pay nearly $30 for a one day policy that only covers a few hundred dollars). Others (including moi) are willing to take some risk as long as it is affordable risk. But what amazes me are the cruisers who will pay hundreds of dollars for trip cancellation policies (that often only cover a few thousand dollars of liability) and have no concern about their potential medical liability which can be virtually unlimited. Perhaps my feelings come from having worked in the medical insurance industry (government) for over thirty years. There is something very sad about a person that incurs a $100,000+ medical liability and they only have $10,000 of insurance (typical medical coverage on cruise line policies).

Wish it was approved for WA residents

That is another topic. But suffice it to say that you folks keep electing very liberal folks who have an interest in protecting their buddies (who contribute generously to their campaigns). This often means that certain vendors (especially those from outside the State) are not going to get approved. And perhaps some of these companies do not want to play the political game and pay to play! It is the way of our country, but it is worse in certain States.
