Port Canaveral Hotels with open bed frames for wheelchair users?

My daughter (who is 26 years old) uses a power wheelchair. We use a hoyer lift to lift her in and out of bed. Every single hotel in the Port Canaveral area we have called has told us they have beds that have no open bed frames, even in the handicapped rooms. Since there is no space between the bottom of the bed and the floor, there is no way to roll the lift legs under the bed to get her in and out.

Does anyone know of a hotel anywhere within an hours drive or so of the port that has rooms that are wheelchair accessible and also have beds that have regular bed frames?

I really don't want her to have to sleep in her chair the night before her very first cruise, but I can literally not find once single hotel that we can actually use. Any suggestions?

I am almost ashamed of myself. All these years, and I never once thought of just asking for a rollaway bed. That is the most perfect solution! All hotels have them, and that is exactly what we need.

Thank you, Thank you! Not only did you just save this trip, you've made every one from now on a breeze. If I could hug you, I would!

I am interested in learning how you travel and cruise with a Hoyer lift. My husband has progressive supra nuclear palsy (lots of symptoms similar to Parkinsons) and it is getting more and more difficult for him to transfer. We would really love to continue cruising, but it's getting very difficult for him to move from bed to his wheelchair.

Sorry for the late reply. We haven't yet taken a cruise with the lift yet, but we have three planned this year with my daughter (and her various medical equipment). we are going on Disney in Jan, Carnival in May and Royal in Oct. I want to compare and contrast how each line/ship compares in regards to accessibility, before we decide which we will keep taking. We have cruised before, but these will be our first with our handicapped daughter coming.

I fully intend to come post comments/observations on each and a comparison at the the end. Perhaps no one cares, but when I was looking for comments, it seemed that there were just snippets here and there, and not really a review from a severely handicapped point of view.

With all that being said, I can't WAIT to show her the joys of cruising, and we'll deal with whatever gets thrown at us any way we can. :)

What a great plan and how wonderful this will be for your daughter.

We'll be looking forward to seeing how the three lines compare when it comes to accommodating your equipment. I also suggest letting the ship's doctors know what you will be setting up when you first board so they can provide whatever additional assistance they can.
