Obituary here of Captain Arnett master of QE2 for 6 years from 1976. A bit before my sailing days began sadly, but I really don't think they make them like that anymore.

Yes, the Times allows you to post a link to the article but cuts the text off in half way. I'm surprised that none of the other dailies have published this.

 

I thought it was a great tale about when the Russians were being difficult over visas in Yalta and he sailed away, leaving tour guides and busses waiting on the quay side. Doubt any modern captain would do, or be allowed to do, that.
