balf Posted September 29, 2015 #1 Share Posted September 29, 2015 Obituary here of Captain Arnett master of QE2 for 6 years from 1976. A bit before my sailing days began sadly, but I really don't think they make them like that anymore. http://www.thetimes.co.uk/tto/public/share/uuid/a4e6a2a8-142b-11e3-bfd3-ac510335f937 David
Host Hattie Posted September 29, 2015 #2 Share Posted September 29, 2015 Unfortunately I can't read the full article without paying a subscription, I posted a link to the Southern Daily Press obituary earlier this month. If I knew how to post links from my Kindle I'd re-post it ! I have a tenuous connection in that my father was his GP for a while.

balf Posted September 30, 2015 Author #4 Share Posted September 30, 2015 Yes, the Times allows you to post a link to the article but cuts the text off in half way. I'm surprised that none of the other dailies have published this. I thought it was a great tale about when the Russians were being difficult over visas in Yalta and he sailed away, leaving tour guides and busses waiting on the quay side. Doubt any modern captain would do, or be allowed to do, that. David.
