flip side of fifty Posted October 3, 2015 #1 Share Posted October 3, 2015 The email was sent out yesterday informing that the Alaska 2016 Excursions are open for booking. We are booked on the 15 day Connoisseur Escorted Cruise tour in May, our first for Alaska. There are a couple of excursions already included, and I realize, there might be some that will not be available that early in the season. I have also read several reviews on the Alaskan cruises and the information is there on excursions, but, I thought if I asked the question: For each Alaska location, what was your best excursion and why? Thank you for your time and attention in advance.:)

LoriPhil Posted October 3, 2015 #4 Share Posted October 3, 2015 Yes - the Alaska boards are terrific and people are very generous with information. We have taken the following non-Princess tours based on the recommendations there, and will be repeating then next year when we go back. Enjoy Alaska - it's a wonderful experience! Rare Cruise Raider Posted October 4, 2015 #5 Share Posted October 4, 2015 For one, I thought the Mendenhall Glacier in Juneau is a must. The one coupled with the fish hatchery was one of my favorites. Also, don't forget to stop in (anytime after 4 PM) at the Red Dog Saloon if you are still in port. In Skagway, we did the sled dog puppies tour ... very interesting. The Days of '98 (?) show (doesn't have to be an organized tour) was also very good. Just at the end of the main street in Skagway. In Ketchikan, we enjoyed married man's trail up to the top of the hill and make sure you hike up to the point where the salmon are swimming upstream on the ladder (part of the trail). May should be an excellent time to see this. Also, the lumberjack show (some say it is hoaky) was a blast. We had a great time there. You can buy your tickets ahead of time or in town...again, does not have to be an organized tour. It is within walking distance from the dock. Their might be other ports but this hits the major ones that they all seem to stop at. If you stop in Victoria, a walk to Beacon Hill Park is one of my favorite things to do. From there, you can walk to the center of town and tour the Empress Hotel and Government Buildings. There is no charge for any of this.
