Celebrity Silhouette Ireland

We are taking Celebrity Silhouette next summer and are first timers to Europe. The ship goes to Dun Lahaire, Ireland. We understand this is a tender port and a considerable distance from Dublin.

How long does the tender take?

Does Celebrity offer a shuttle from the port to Dublin?

If not, best option to get to Dublin?

Thanks for any help with understanding what to expect so we can assess transportation and make plans for our visit to Dublin.

We did Ireland this past summer on the Silly, luckily our port of call got changed form Dun Laoghaire to port of Dublin.

You might also get lucky too as sometimes the Dun Laoghaire might not be able to accommodate the Silhouette because of ship traffic.

However if you end up in Dun Laoghaire be prepared for tendering to shore with either a train ride or shuttle to city center of 30 minutes.

You can also get more info by posting this on the Britain (ports) thread:

You are likely to be tendered in Dun Laoghaire harbour.

I imagine Celebrity would offer a Shuttle Bus for a cost (as it is some distance from Dublin City Centre).

If you don't take that, then you could consider catching the DART (an electric light rail that just runs a short distance along the coast). Best stop to get off at in Dublin city area would probably be Tara Street.

Takes 20 minutes. Costs €3.15 one-way or €6 return ticket.

Unfortunately the CC Ports of Call Board gets very few people responding to posters questions re Ireland so is not a great source of info. (Plus as Dun Laoghaire is a bit of a tongue-twister name it can be prone to being spelt wrongly, which could hamper searching). It is the British Isles/ Western Europe board if you are looking (but CC having lumped so many countries onto the one board makes more awkward than it should be). However, you could start by looking at these 2 posts :

2nd the DART to Dublin, easy ride and it's a pretty ride. And in case you didn't know, Dun Laoghaire is pronounced 'Dun Leery'.

If it's a pretty day and you're not set on seeing Dublin (or you've been there before), I'd recommend taking the DART to Malahide instead. Pretty little town by the shore, has a very nice castle with lovely gardens for walking, and some great little pubs downtown.

Or take the DART to Howth (pronounced Howt or Hoat, depending on whom you ask!). There's a nice coastal path there and a very scenic harbor.

We are planning on Malahide for our Dublin port day via DART.
