Fishermans Island terminal, Brisbane

Recommended Posts

For those that don't know, discussions have begun for a new terminal for the very large ships across from the grain terminal at Luggage Point.

That would be a better location. We'll see what transpires.

Would that be between the sewage works and the oil refinery?

I hope they give some consideration to ferry access to the city.

Don't worry they'll whack up some hessian screens :)

How may ferries would they need to run out there to make a dint in a megaliners passenger queue ?

Perhaps or maybe they moved them just to trick you.:p

There definitely were grain silos on the northside at the Pinkenba bulk grain terminal. Perhaps someone from Brisbane can tell us if this was demolished or not?

That's good news about the terminal. Luggage Point is on the northside of the river so closer to the airport, which is good.

When The George Washington was at Brisbane earlier in the year, Pacific Jewel was at Portside and the Dawn Princess had to dock at Pinkemba on the north side of the river almost directly across from the grain terminal. This spot would be great to redevelop as a cruise terminal. Close to airport and it is also at the end of the dis-used Pinkemba rail line. The tracks are still there. It would be fantastic if ships could dock for day visits and passengers could jump on a train to the city or gold coast.

I'm not sure if this is the location the article is talking about or further down.

I just checked and they are still there, but do not handle any grain ( many other bulky exports). The new ones on the Southside at Fishermans do that job.

I am glad that they put them back then:p

The new terminal should be a lot better once completed. Hope it goes ahead.:D

Went for a drive out to pinkenba yesterday, if it's to be built directly across the river it will anoin the sewerage treatment plant and the stench was unbelievable, it will be worse on cloudy humid days. It maybe built a bit further downriver just past the petroleum port at myrtle town, a lot of empty land and a wide area to turn ships around
