Bisous3 Posted April 20, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 20, 2004 I am trying to plan my family reunion for '05 on the Caribbean Princess. (had such a great time on the Island that I am hooked on Princess now!) The TA said that the rates started at $1049 pp for an inside double. That seemed so high! Even she said she "wasn't impressed with the rates". She claims summer is high season in the Carribean because schools out- if thats the case why wouldn't Princess have more ships doing this itinerary in the summer? Carribean is our only choice! Any chance these rates might drop? Suzanne Oceanic '82 Oceanic '83 Century '01 Century '03 Millennium '03 Island Princess '
Rare Coral Posted April 20, 2004 #2 Share Posted April 20, 2004 Yes - the rates are high. And yes, they MAY come down. Anytime you price something a year out for a summer period - it will be high. If the ship isn't selling "as scheduled" in the next year, then the prices will probably be adjusted.
sue d. miller Posted April 20, 2004 #3 Share Posted April 20, 2004 Yes, it is high, but rates in the summer are higher. any cruise during the summer, school vacations, and holidays, will always cost more. reductions will depend on how fast the ship fills up. Bisous3 Posted April 20, 2004 Author #5 Share Posted April 20, 2004 I find it surpising that for such a popular time of year Princess doesn't have at least one more ship doing this itinerary during the summer (especially departing out of FLL- all my NY cousins were going to drive down to save some $ on airfare) Suzanne Oceanic '82 Oceanic '83 Century '01 Century '03 Millennium '03 Island Princess '
sue d. miller Posted April 20, 2004 #6 Share Posted April 20, 2004 Next year they will. The sister to the Caribbean will do the same routes all year like this one does . Sue 7 days on Star Princess 10/
Rare Coral Posted April 20, 2004 #7 Share Posted April 20, 2004 I think the sister to the Caribbean Princess won't be out until 2006. Sue - not a problem. More input the better. Princess can make more money on their sailings in Europe and Alaska then they can in the Caribbean. Thus, they put 7 or so ships in Alaska and 3 or so ships in Europe. Bisous3 Posted April 20, 2004 Author #8 Share Posted April 20, 2004 I would bet they'd sell out! Suzanne Oceanic '82 Oceanic '83 Century '01 Century '03 Millennium '03 Island Princess '
Rustynail Posted April 20, 2004 #9 Share Posted April 20, 2004 I understand why families want to sail during the summer months but why do others want to sail during this period? I love to cruise when it's below zero here and snowy. To us a cruise in Jan breaks up the winter and gives us enough strength to get though the remaining few months. Bring on the winter!!! GottoCruise Posted April 20, 2004 #10 Share Posted April 20, 2004 Hey Girl----those of us that live in Florida (or other "sunny" spots) like to get away from the humidity and heat in the summer...so I prefer to cruise during the summer months! - and I beg to differ - I think the Carribeann is the "cash cow"....port fees are higher elsewhere. PeabodyNVL Posted April 20, 2004 #11 Share Posted April 20, 2004 Cruiselines tended to get their ships out of the Caribbean during the summer because of the hurricane season. Now with faster ships and better weather forecasting, ships can pretty much avoid hurricanes and just change the itnerary. Now that cruising has become more affordable to the masses and more people are cruising, we are seeing an increase in ships in the Caribbean during the summer months. CruiseFever Posted April 20, 2004 #12 Share Posted April 20, 2004 Way high- We cruise during peak times all the time so we can take the kids and I'd never pay over $800-900 pp tops for an inside on Princess How many cabins for your reunion? Is a group cruise booking with group rates possible? If you're even close a good TA should be able to put something together for you I'd think TA's? Rare Coral Posted April 20, 2004 #13 Share Posted April 20, 2004 Europe price vs Caribbean Prices: Just an example - the Grand Princess is going for $1700 per person for an inside 10 day cruise in the Baltics in July. Caribbean Princess is going for $799 for a 7 day cruise.
Rare Coral Posted April 20, 2004 #14 Share Posted April 20, 2004 I just looked at prices and the price that your TA quoted is the going retail price for cruises next summer. Princess always prices their cruises high a year out. Hopefully as the year goes by, the prices will come down. Maybe you would be better off planning the reunion 6 months out. Bisous3 Posted April 21, 2004 Author #15 Share Posted April 21, 2004 Chris- that WAS a group rate! Can you imagine? Coral- my TA said she doubted the prices would go down. She said they didn't this year.Another relative suggested HAL. I am do deflated! S.S.Oceanlover Posted April 21, 2004 #17 Share Posted April 21, 2004 wasn't it just a few years back that Princess didn't have ANy ships in the Caribbean during the summer seasons? Bill Caribbean Princess Eastern Caribbean cruise page
Rare Coral Posted April 21, 2004 #18 Share Posted April 21, 2004 Oceanlover - yes. Princess hasn't always put ships in the Caribbean over the summer though with the Caribbean Princess, "they are now committed to the Caribbean" over the summer. ---- I bet the prices will come down but it will be several months before they will. This summer's prices are lower then what you have been quoted but we are only a few months from summer right now.
dewla Posted April 21, 2004 #19 Share Posted April 21, 2004 Sounds way high for me! We are going on the June 5,2004 sailing of the Carribean Princess and we are paying $870 per person for four double cabins in balcony cabins. Laura

david d Posted April 21, 2004 #21 Share Posted April 21, 2004 We just sailed the CP April 10--Spring Break--ship was filled and it filled earlish-- we were in a mini suite. Prices, including all port and tax, were around 1000 each for the adults and 700 for the children. This is without flights. Hope the information helps. Jacqueline Posted April 21, 2004 #22 Share Posted April 21, 2004 There are not a lot of ships in the Carribbean in the summer as long as terrorism is not on peoples minds. There are a lot of ships from all the major cruiselines in Europe and Alaska on the summer months. The per dieums are much higher in these other itineraries as Coral pointed out and the limited number of ships in the Caribbean means that the berths will be filled without discounting. Princess has made a big investment in Alaska with lodges and so forth and has been sending more and more ships there over the past few years as new ones have joined the fleet.
