Pensioncruiser Posted November 5, 2015 #2 Share Posted November 5, 2015 No you are OK because of the time factor, its only goes up when you are closer to the date of travel. Sorry can't help about Funchal ☺
stelin34 Posted November 5, 2015 Author #3 Share Posted November 5, 2015 Thanks for that pensioncruiser, was a bit worried. The thomson site or the agents arent much help lately
jaxw17 Posted November 5, 2015 #4 Share Posted November 5, 2015 Part of it is but if you venture further in it is very hilly. You would have to stay on the level when you get in to town there are quite a lot of cafes and shops around this area
stelin34 Posted November 5, 2015 Author #5 Share Posted November 5, 2015 Thanks jaxw17 .What about disembarking .My father in law cant walk much due to a stroke .
CRUISIN LINDA Posted November 5, 2015 #6 Share Posted November 5, 2015 (edited) Do you mean £18.20 for the two of you for the whole holiday? That does seem very cheap considering it is only 5 months away! We booked our last Majesty cruise 7 months before the cruise and paid £105 each for drinks package. Pensioncruiser Posted November 5, 2015 #7 Share Posted November 5, 2015 We have in the past seen the staff helping with wheelchairs off the ship at port's so I am certain you will be looked after☺
geomagot Posted November 5, 2015 #8 Share Posted November 5, 2015 its a long walk around the port to get to the town, the main part of the town is pretty level some shops are up a steep hill and the gardens have lots of steps (but I think there are ramps?) the cable car is accessible (they have an adapted car) I think? the port run golf carts up to the start of the town for people with low mobility (someone will be along who knows for sure) if not? taxis are available from the ships gangway, a taxi tour may be the way togo? away from the port area/center of town the rest of funchal is pretty hilly

We booked our last Majesty cruise 7 months before the cruise and paid £105 each for drinks package. The Iberian Adventure cruises departing 25th and 26th April 2016 were free AI up to a few weeks ago then they went to £10pp per cruise... Then the new site wants odd amounts like £9.10 for the AI for the week ??? I did miss out on the £75 off code the other month but can't complain as I got the free AI and the Premier Inn at Gatwick was snapped up when it went down to £39 for the pre flight stay. :) :) Edited November 5, 2015 by Stevio

stelin34 Posted November 5, 2015 Author #13 Share Posted November 5, 2015 Thanks everyone for your posts. We got hooked on cruising after doing the island escape in 2014 then 2015 now we're doing the majesty and hoping to get the in-laws hooked. We liked the escape cos it wasn't full of pretentious people. Hoping this is the same.
Lucie14 Posted November 6, 2015 #14 Share Posted November 6, 2015 Stelin, you should like the Majesty. This will be our 3rd time on it. On our last trip we met this guy that loved the Island Escape and he said it was on par with that. I don't like snooty people hence the reason we choose Thomsons, that and the fact my hubby doesn't like to get dressed up and doesn't like the thought of being on board a larger cruise ship. It's ideal for us. I would really like to try the Discovery though, maybe in 2017 for the Caribbean...

Stevio Posted November 6, 2015 #21 Share Posted November 6, 2015 (edited) Thanks everyone for your posts. Hoping this is the same. I got into this cruising lark with the Ocean Village cruises & found the Island Escape to be a good (if older) alternative after the OV shut down. I think the Majesty is a good substitute for the IE… Well it has decent buffets and a slightly larger casino so that meets my requirements. Your fellow cruisers on Thomson ships are generally the same types to be found on the IE… In fact a good number will certainly be ex Escapers looking for a new home. Now if they could just get Ross Roberts on there it really would be a real home from home. :) We will be on her the day before you, so will get the ship warmed up for you. Stevio Posted December 3, 2015 #23 Share Posted December 3, 2015 (edited) Hi stevio can you point me in the direction for roll call for majesty . I've done it once and can't find it now Hi Stelin34 , no probs. The roll call is named “Thomson Majesty - Monday 25th April - 2016 Iberian Adventure” on the CC Thomson Roll call page it is currently 20th from the top (including sticky) & the last post is dated Nov 13th. That post was one of yours so you haven’t missed anything. Thomson roll calls always seem quiet, (well dead really) compared to say the American NCL ones where by this time they would have organised a 200+ strong meet & greet, gift exchange, cabin crawl, privately booked tours, etc, etc… Not the British way at all. :D Right OK drum roll please, let’s go for a direct link… http://boards.cruisecritic.co.uk/showthread.php?t=2249359 Still worried that you can book about any cruise on the Thomson site except this one that has gone to a dead link from the cruise options button since a couple of weeks after the new site went live. Or maybe it was when they realised they were offering the all inclusive for less than a couple of quid pp per night? stelin34 Posted December 3, 2015 Author #24 Share Posted December 3, 2015 Ha ha your right they're stevio .it's going to be a real quiet ship. But it is strange the way the booking link hasn't been fixed isn't it.
Rare Jim The Scot Posted December 3, 2015 #25 Share Posted December 3, 2015 Not long back from the Majesty. Depending on what bar you go to and who you know( barman/ waiter ;)) spirits/ cocktails were poor/weak,mixer were flat, draught lager was tasteless or warm.Left many a drink and requested another Best bar for spirits. Rendevous Best for draught lager Rendevous or Topsiders The AI....sorry Drinks package as its no more AI than fly in the air is watered down much like the taste of some of the drinks :D
