Anthem os the Seas @ 4 critical patients

From a VERY reliable source, on average there is one death per week on a cruise.

I am fairly certain we had a death on Oasis last week. Day 1 or 2, late at night we heard Alpha Alpha Alpha overhead. We were told by crew later in the week that a woman traveling with family had died. It happens more often than we realize I'm guessing. We noticed very few children this cruise and a large number of older pax.

I cannot imagine the pain these people must be feeling and their sadness. We - myself included - take so much for granted. We anticipate our cruise for months or even years ... And if the food isn't to our liking or the weather doesn't cooperate, we declare our dissatisfaction to the world. I'm guilty for sure. Then I hear about things like this and it puts things back in perspective, for me at least. My biggest frustration was the rubber lobster and soggy crab legs in the Windjammer. Seriously. And these poor people died or became critically ill. And their poor families were left behind - having to walk around on a ship with everyone enjoying themselves while their loved one was sick or gone. Very sad.

I was on IOS in September and we had several medical emergencies and one person did die. Our first stop in San Juan they were taking a lady off on a stretcher who was sitting up. A couple of days later I heard the Alpha Alpha code and several crew members ran past me on the outside deck. Later on I heard from a casino dealer that the passenger had died.

My mother who is 82 cruises three times a year and she tells me that on almost every cruise someone dies. This is one of my greatest fears for her but she is very healthy and doesn't look 82.

My prayers go out to the families that lost someone on this cruise. How very sad!

Is this for real? "Dialysis At Sea"? .. Like a theme cruise?

If so, maybe this isn't the best idea in the future .. considering all the trouble it caused . Maybe ship-board dialysis isn't as good an idea as it sounds (and also might be the reason RC made the captain gun it full speed back to Bayonne) ... hmmmm still say this is all fishy ... and I see lawyers waiting on the pier too ... not just the paramedics.

Whats next? "Chemotherapy At Sea"? Bad idea.

Wow. How heartless. It's amazing how people act until it's them or their family member with a problem.

I hope that if you ever get really ill that you lock yourself in your house and never leave. Sick people shouldn't be allowed to go anywhere.

And for the "trouble it caused" you don't know if that is in fact what actually happened. Even if it is, it would be ok with me because I would be thankful that I am healthy and don't have to worry about it.

And btw ever heard of the make a wish foundation? They allow people on chemo to travel all over. They make accommodations so that they can have an awesome experience. It's really sad that your only thought is how that might inconvience you. Unfortunately that is the mentality of a lot of people in today's world.

Yes, it is very real.

It's nice that people with a severe illness that needs constant medical attention in order to stay alive are given the opportunity to enjoy life whether it be on land or sea.

Having worked as a nurse on cruise ships in the past, I can concur that indeed there are often pax that pass away at sea, it may be natural..their last cruise with loved one and expire in their sleep...very sad, but I have seen many that have had an MI or coded (maybe excess drinking, forgetting to take their meds, choking on food or an existing condition, who knows...) but they are sustained medically until a higher level of care can be arranged, be it, air lift, coastguard or next port depending on acuity/critical etc. Even when the med center was full, pax/crew were still seen but usually by way of triage.

If med staff are busy with other sick pts, then other crew would be designated,, ie guest service staff, to be there as emotional support (as much as poss) for the remaining family members or guests that travelled with the deceased..... Every incident like this is truly heartbreaking for everyone involved.

I totally agree. It was quite ruthless.

We know a couple on board in that program on the current cruise. They reported that all is OK with them. We have cruised with the couple before on the Explorer and they reported a fantastic DOS facility and care.

You should not be concerned with people's speculation. Enjoy your Anthem cruise. You will be in good hands.

I appreciate your thoughtful and levelheaded posts. Looking forward to cruising with you on the Anthem.

Why would that make you anxious? Someone else's illness or accident foes not affect your health or safety.:confused:

It could, at this point its all speculation, which the last I heard was still ok here.

Just off the Grandeur. Medical staff earned their pay this cruise. Reportedly there were two deaths during the cruise. Rumors of up to six passengers were medically removed at various ports. We did divert into Norfolk on Friday to remove a lady who was having respiratory issues. At Labadee a helicopter landed on the pier to remove a person who reportedly was "stung". Also at Labedee there was a Oscar-Oscar-Oscar for a crew member who fell overboard during one of the drills that the ship was having while tied to the dock. One crew-member supposedly received a bad burn on his upper arm. Not sure of the details. And tostart everything off on a good foot.....second night there was a domestic dispute between a couple. She was tazed and spent the remainder of the cruise in the brig and he spent the cruise in his cabin. Quite assuredly copious amounts of some spirits was involved.
