How are you announced at boarding?

We will be three with one last name and my sister with a different last name. How will we be announced? I don't want my sister to be "slighted" if they go with the majority name, i.e.: "the Smith family".

 

Trivial I guess, but wondering.

They ask you for your name, so you can tell them exactly how you would like to be announced. We had 10 people with all different last names, so we just said "Nana's crew". A lot of times I hear things like "The Smith and Jones Families". You can think about it now & then let them know at the door exactly how you'd like to be announced.

You can be announced separately.

 

Your sister goes first, "We welcome the Smith Family".

Then the 3 of you, "We welcome the Adam Family."

 

Everyone can have their own announcement.

Thanks so much for letting me know. I don't know why I was so worried about it... just want to make sure my sister gets her "nod"!! She's the reason we ended up on the boat at all!!

We've always just asked for our first names - "Please welcome Helen & John"

 

Or you could just make up a new name and have them announce you as that.

 

"We welcome the Skywalker family"

"We welcome the Kardashian family"

 

Be aware that they have started being picky about using "cute" names.

No. You can tell them you don't want to be announced, when they ask your name.

They have gotten a lot more strict about names that they recognize as probably made up. If they don't recognize it as fake, anything goes.

 

No, you don't have to be announced--just ask them to not do it.

 

When you have people with different last names, you can do it any way you want to. When we had my daughter's graduation cruise, they did "daughter's first name and her crew." You can be "the Smith and Jones families" or do it separately "Ms. Smith" and then "the Jones family."

A friend and I just cruised together. We thought the announcement part might be awkward since we weren't family or a couple. But the staff just asked us for our first names and we were introduced as Tara and Brandy, separately.
