Has anyone else cruise pregnant on Carnival?

I just found out I'm pregnant and if my calculations are right I'll turn 15 weeks while on the ship.

I know I'm fine to cruise at that time because I read all of Carnival's pregnancy policies but does anyone have personal experience cruising?

I guess I'd just like to know your experience and any suggestions you might have ect ect. Thanks!

I would seriously discourage it. Morning sickness. Different foods, lots of walking, excessive heat, and if you miscarriage then you're looking at being medivac'ed out. If you must do it, make sure you have travel insurance that will cover the pregnancy.

I do have the insurance. I always get the insurance regardless of my situation. =)

I've done it 3 times, all between 10-22 weeks along.

Got doctor's notes all 3 times, was not asked for them ever.

Never heard anything about 10 days prior as was noted above. Just took the notes to the port with me.

Called ahead of time to inform them once, they seemed confused as to why I was calling.

I had no issue with morning sickness or other pregnancy ails. Did get some swelling from heat and walking. Drink lots of water!

Was aslo a teeny bit more tired than usual, so I had to hang out at the pool and spa and relax. Such torture :D

Speaking of spa there are some treatments that aren't recommended during pregnancy. Speak to your OB for details or limitations.

You may want to check out the children's areas since you'll be using them on the next cruise ;)

Check out the family board-tons of the women there have cruised while pregnant and will give you great advice. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=49

Congrats and have fun.

Hi there, first of all congratulations!

I was about 20 weeks pregnant on the 2nd cruise I went on. The cruise was planned before we found out and we were not cancelling. :)

Although I would not choose to do it again, we had a nice time. I obviously wasn't able to do a lot of the things I would have like to have done, but I did a lot of relaxing instead. There were a lot of excursions that do not allow pregnant women to participate in, no drinking alcohol (duh) and I didn't use the water slides on the ship either.

The walking didn't bother me, and I kept well hydrated. I did get a little nauseous one evening, but nothing to get too terrible.

Just take it easy, and have a great time!

Morning sickness and heat happen on land too. Walking is good exercise. Stay hydrated and if your doctor OKs it you should be fine.

We sailed when my wife was just a few weeks shy of the cutoff and we had no issues whatsoever. Being on the second trimester, my wife felt fine with none of the health issues that she had during the first trimester. My wife doesn't drink so being pregnant didn't make any difference in that regard. We enjoyed the things that we normally enjoy, went to the beach, shore excursions, the steakhouse, shows, etc. it truly was a non-issue.

She did check with her doctor before we left and he issued the letter stating how far along she was, but Carnival never asked for it, even when we arrived at the port and we informed the check in agent that we had it.

About insurance, make sure that your policy covers medical issues due to pregnancy complications. I picked a policy that specifically covered this since several others, including policies that I had purchased before didn't cover that. Read the fine print and make sure that what you want covered is indeed covered.

Should not be issue since you are saying you are healthy and everything is good. Please read your travel insurance and make sure your pregnancy is covered under it, make sure it is for primary insurance and they will pay the hospital in advance to admit you, make sure you have medical evacuation included as well. May sound silly but you want to be covered no matter what in your present condition.

I personally chose not to, my doctor approved and I was within Carnival policy but for some reason just didn't feel right. I ended up having a perfectly healthy pregnancy and lost a bit of $$ since I was past final payment with no insurance but still stand by my decision [emoji3]. It's totally your choice!

I've never cruised pregnant, but I've traveled during two of my pregnancies, and I think you have picked the perfect time.

At 15 weeks you are still small enough to be comfortable, but the morning sickness will hopefully have passed. You should be able to do all but the most strenuous excursions. So no ziplining or ATVs, but you can snorkel, shop, swim, hang out at the beach, etc. Unless you are someone that cruises to get plastered by the pool, there will be plenty to do.

My DH and I did a babymoon to Playa del Carmen when I was 32 weeks with our first, and it was awesome. I did get tired more quickly than usual, but I had plenty of time to lay on the beach, so it was fine. We climbed ruins, ate tons of fantastic street tacos, swam in a cenote, went kayaking, etc. All was fine. Talk to your doctor and see what they say. Mine is a firm believer that pregnant women shouldn't be treated like they are some sort of delicate, breakable objects and encouraged us to go.

I cruised at 14 weeks with Hyperemesis Gravidarum. I had just gotten out of the hospital a week prior. I had a PICC line and had to put IV meds in it 4-6 times a day. We had booked the cruise over a year out.

I'd do it again. The cruise was when I stopped losing weight and started gaining! My doctor told me that the cruise was the best place for me--24 hour access to any kind of food I wanted, people trying to feed me constantly, walking for exercise and relaxing as much as possible. I wasn't allowed in the pool, because of my picc, but you could, just no hot tub :(

I had to call Carnival in advance because in addition to being pregnant, I required a sharps container for my room and was carrying on a substantial amount of liquid IV meds. When we arrived, they wanted to see the letter from my doctor, had me sign a form, and had to have a supervisor "unblock" our room, so try to arrive early, mine took a while. Other than that, listen to your body. Ask your doctor if they think it's ok, ask them about anti nausea/seasickness meds, bring the stretchy pants and go for it!

This was in Long Beach, not sure if they do it differently other places. They put a block on the room to alert the person checking you in that they need to see the letter and get the form signed. Then they put in a supervisor code saying those things have happened and it's done. It can take a bit because Long Beach is a bit chaotic and tracking down a supervisor can take a bit.

I also cruised while about 18 weeks pregnant. I enjoy drinking on vacation so I did miss having a cold one however I discovered that I loved Carnivals frozen lemonade:) My husband and I had a blast!! Only thing I will complain about is I also like to gamble but found the second hand smoke kept me from the casino!!

Hi Everyone!

Thank you for sharing your experiences and thanks to those who congratulated me. :)

I’m a 1-2 drink at dinner person so I don’t think the absence of alcohol will impact me much. If anything it will be great to save money!!!! We also tend to pick excursions that involve lying around on the beach so I think I’m safe there too. I’ll get a letter from my doctor and shoot carnival an email and ask them what they need from me. I will also check my insurance and see if it covers pregnancy.
