scher Posted December 9, 2015 #1 Share Posted December 9, 2015 Hi all. Would like recommendations for hotels that are easy accessible to trains coming into Venice and Airport for flying home. I understand it is easier to stay near transportation because of luggage and then get around Venice to sight see without luggage is easiest by water taxi? Any help and information is appreciated. Baseball fan Posted December 9, 2015 #2 Share Posted December 9, 2015 I would recommend a hotel near Piazzle Roma. It is near the train station and you can catch the bus (via land) to the airport. I stayed at Hotel Arlecchino which is one small bridge from Piazzle Roma.
mapleleaves Posted December 9, 2015 #3 Share Posted December 9, 2015 If luggage is a concern, a hotel near the train station or Piazzale Roma would be easiest. Piazzale Roma is where you catch the bus, shuttle, or taxi to the airport. The train station is on the other side of the Canal from PRoma. It's only a 5 minute walk but you need to cross the Calatrava Bridge. A photo of the bridge is in the attached link (look below the map to the text and you'll find the small photo). Will you be able to manage your luggage across the bridge? The steps are shallow which makes it easier to drag wheeled luggage , but it also means there are more of them. http://europeforvisitors.com/venice/bridges/ Hotels and B&B's in the area vary from 80 - 300E, depending on your requirements. You can use that same link to find hotels. Or try http://www.venere.com using the map to zero in on a specific area. If you absolutely can't manage your luggage, another option would be to disembark the train in Mestre and stay there. It's on the mainland across the causeway from Venice ..... about a 10 minute commute, 3E.
mapleleaves Posted December 9, 2015 #4 Share Posted December 9, 2015 BTW, a water taxi would be a very expensive way to sightsee. You can walk from the train station/PRoma area to St Marks in under an hour, or use the water bus/vaporetto. The #1 is considered the scenic route because it hits every stop along the Grand Canal; it leaves PRoma every 15 minutes or so and takes about 45 minutes. The #2 only makes half the stops. Maybe get the Rick Steves audio guide to take along the route. http://europeforvisitors.com/venice/articles/vi-index.htm
