MSC Cancellation Clause

Just finished reading my MSC booking document. Under Cancellation clause, it says cancellation must be done in writing, mailed and received by MSC office in FL before the cutoff date. Not email, fax or by calling. Sounds so formal and back to pre internet days of doing business. Did anyone actually manage to cancel a MSC cruise successfully by simply calling its 1-877 no. or through fax? Just wondering for future reference.

I called and cancelled a cruise last year, maybe things have changed.
