SeasC Posted December 18, 2015 #1 Share Posted December 18, 2015 We're going to Cambodia, Vietnam, Singapore, HK and Thailand, and may need to call Canada. Any suggestions you have for cheap phoning options would be greatly appreciated.

Any suggestions you have for cheap phoning options would be greatly appreciated. Check with your phone company . I use Telus and they have a service that allows you to call a Canadian Operator on a toll free number . The operator then connects you to the number you want and charges are Canadian long distance charges not international .
Bpos Posted December 19, 2015 #3 Share Posted December 19, 2015 If you are taking a pc you could set up a skype account before leaving. We used this to make calls from WIFI spots throughout Europe to Australia just recently and had no problems making calls once of the ship at cafes etc

Rare mking8288 Posted December 19, 2015 #6 Share Posted December 19, 2015 Google Voice (Hangouts) calling to US and Canada phone numbers are free when calling WiFi from abroad, when available locally - and in some cases, just 1 cents per minute. It can be done on a laptop, smartphone and iphone - the App is well integrated and just as easy to use as Skype, which has been around much longer, of course. Add that as an option/backup - if you can. When we're traveling in Taiwan this Fall, we made free calls home to the US and used it to call South Korea for 2 cents per minute, yes - dirt cheap rates. pieshops Posted December 30, 2015 #10 Share Posted December 30, 2015 If your phone is unlocked just by a SIM card for the country you are visiting, they are generally pretty cheap.
