jtwanabe Posted January 3, 2016 #1 Share Posted January 3, 2016 I've been out of the loop for the past 3 months and just checked the price of a fall cruise like I always do. It's like $300 more than normal. Did prices just escalate while I was off doing other things. Inquiring minds want to know.
ready2cruzagain Posted January 3, 2016 #2 Share Posted January 3, 2016 You aren't kidding. And forget about last minute bookings, they are ridiculous.
nessz79 Posted January 3, 2016 #3 Share Posted January 3, 2016 Seems to depend. Summer prices are crazy high to me, but we still got a good deal on our spring break cruise.
Indytraveler83 Posted January 3, 2016 #4 Share Posted January 3, 2016 Demand is going up again, so prices are following. There are still pretty good deals out there, but you have to book further in advance to get them. High season cruising is also getting more expensive. I'm happy we usually go in the winter! jtwanabe Posted January 3, 2016 Author #5 Share Posted January 3, 2016 I get the seasonal things but I'm talking end of September beginning of October. I've booked this time of year for several years just not this early. NO advantage for booking early that I can see as long as you can get the Early Savers benefits. Bases5 Posted January 3, 2016 #6 Share Posted January 3, 2016 Maybe they are' I paid $899 pp plus port taxes for a inside cabin that was a 120 sq ft in 1981 So I'm still good with the prices. I guess it's all perspective

StolidCruiser Posted January 3, 2016 #8 Share Posted January 3, 2016 How does this help anyone in 2016..... Because you can book a decent itinerary on a decent ship for about half that today. Hence the word "perspective".

No "perspective " for 2016 supple and demand on cruise ship prices.
JMAE Posted January 3, 2016 #10 Share Posted January 3, 2016 A few months back Carnival indicated they would be reducing sales to increase their profit margins and based on their recent earning they succeeded. They just announced adjusted net income for the full year 2015 of $2.1 billion compared to $1.5 billion for the prior year. Still the best vacation value! Taters Posted January 3, 2016 #11 Share Posted January 3, 2016 I feel that the incredibly cheap prices we've seen over the past few years were deeply discounted and they the cruise lines are just getting back to normal pricing. If they aren't able to fill the ships, then pricing will go back down.
buddylover Posted January 3, 2016 #12 Share Posted January 3, 2016 (edited) Yes, completely agree with you OP.....prices have gone wonky.....of course it is all about the "supply and demand".....however, there is much increased "supply" today as mega ships keep hitting the water.....so I really don't see that as a truly valid main reason. I guess if we all keep paying the increased fares, why not raise them?? Edited January 3, 2016 by buddylover

Book Past Guest and you can always cancel and rebook at a lower price with no penalty up to 76 days out. Book it while on a cruise and you get OBC. vwrestler171 Posted January 3, 2016 #14 Share Posted January 3, 2016 The cruises I booked were decent prices, but have since gone up. All the "sales" have been for the guarantee rooms. There have been no great deals as you get closer though.
cruising maniac Posted January 3, 2016 #15 Share Posted January 3, 2016 I think it is harder to get last minute deals anymore. Carnival is very proficient at filling these cabins up with casino deals. I have not had any success with early saver the last few bookings either. The best thing is book early and use the 10% off gift cards from verizon or aarp to save a little money.
luv2trvlnow Posted January 3, 2016 #16 Share Posted January 3, 2016 And I noticed that Carnival has changed the prices of Porthole cabins (category PT). They used to be the same price as a 4A, but not any longer. They now cost more. I have had one of these a couple times and have 1 booked on the Magic in March. When we booked it was the same price as the 4A now it is $2.90 per person per day more. It is now the price of a 4G on our cruise.
PC Cruisin Posted January 3, 2016 #17 Share Posted January 3, 2016 The reason I have been booking with Carnival is because of price. I have been looking for a May 2016 cruise with Carnival and prices are high. I went to RC site just to see their pricing and guess what? I booked my first RC cruise :D It all comes down to pricing when it comes to cruising.
