keithsfriend Posted January 3, 2016 #1 Share Posted January 3, 2016 I want to take an End of the World tour from our cruise ship from 2:00 to 8:00 pm on Feb 8. Tours I find seem to leave at 8:00 am. Can anyone tell me about a tour they took which they'd recommend that leaves at about 2:00? We don't need to ride the train, but if you recommend it, that would be ok too. RMLincoln Posted January 4, 2016 #2 Share Posted January 4, 2016 Our ship arrived at noon, was there until 11:30pm, and we did a boat tour out to the light house in the early afternoon. Ours was a ship tour but there may be private tours available from the pier, lots of activity at the pier there. Also a lovely town to walk around. I hope you find what you need. Come back with more specific questions and maybe we can help you find something to suit you. m--
take us away Posted January 4, 2016 #3 Share Posted January 4, 2016 Check on tripadvisor or an equivalent website for local tours that fit your criteria if you are not taking the ship's tour. The train is fun and a good way to travel while they maintain the tracks quite well. and the roads can get iffy now and again
FRANKIEDNYC Posted January 4, 2016 #4 Share Posted January 4, 2016 :) At the head of the pier there are countless booth selling all kind of excursions. We took one last time we were there and it was great except for the fact that it was narrated in Spanish. It didn't matter because it was a boat ride out to see penguins and sea lions. For a small price we saw literally thousand of each.

grayjay Posted January 5, 2016 #6 Share Posted January 5, 2016 I second that - it's really easy to find a trip by yourself in Ushuaia. It depends a bit on what time your ship arrives as most boat trips leave in the morning. We have been to Ushuaia several times and shared a taxi for a trip to the National Park and the "end of the world". The ship's excursion which offers a combination of a coach ride and a boat ride back is also nice even if expensive. We ourselves preferred the taxis because the drivers accomodate to what YOU want to do - for example we were interested in taking some short hikes and did that. Most drivers don't speak much English, though.
OlsSalt Posted January 5, 2016 #7 Share Posted January 5, 2016 Save some time for Ushaia itself if you can - the old prison is actually very interesting, the town is quaint and the prison also has a great glass case display of all the varieties of penguins. There is a museum-bar along the waterfront that is worth a visit to get a feel for the old days. We love the "penguin pitcher" we picked up which looked hokey in the Ushiaia tourist shops, but is a fun reminder now of our great Zaandam cruise to this part of the world - one of the better HAL itineraries for those still wondering if they want to circle South America. We did not expect to like it as much as we did. But we did and still talk a lot about it.
KirkNC Posted January 5, 2016 #8 Share Posted January 5, 2016 You can also get some fantastic crab legs on the street one up from the water. You pick the crab you want to eat, it is still alive....yum.
