bellydance 68 Posted January 5, 2016 #1 Share Posted January 5, 2016 Hello. We are on Splendour of Seas in February sailing to Oman, Abu Dhabi and Dubai and are unsure what currency to take. Not planning to spend a great deal ashore but may want to pick up some bits and bobs. Are US dollars accepted everywhere or should we take local currency. Definitely not taking the Scottish pound :) Any advice would be appreciated.

icsys Posted January 14, 2016 #4 Share Posted January 14, 2016 We are also sailing in February and was thinking the same question. Both the UAE Dirhan (AED) and the Omani Rial (OMR) are pegged to the US Dollar. I'm thinking it's best to take USD. They are used onboard and the rate of exchange in UAE and Oman will be fixed. lilybob Posted January 16, 2016 #5 Share Posted January 16, 2016 I would recommend getting some AED's especially if you will be taking taxis or just small amounts for coffee. It's just easier. ATM's are every where in Dubai, including the cruise terminal. Local banks don't add a surcharge fee for the withdrawal of other bank cards, (unlike a lot of banks in the US:eek:) There is also an HSBC branch in Dubai Mall. Dirhams (AED) are widely accepted in Oman. 1 OMR = 9.54 AED Have fun!
