messej01 Posted January 6, 2016 #1 Share Posted January 6, 2016 Hi, I was thinking about taking the 4 day cruise on Pacific Jewel departing on 24th March but I have to be on call for work 24/7 (phone and email). Can anyone tell me if, on one of these 'Australian' cruises, I will keep phone and internet connection to the mainland? Thanks Julie
messej01 Posted January 7, 2016 Author #2 Share Posted January 7, 2016 I went up the east coast over Christmas and we stuck quite tightly to the mainland [could usually see mountains on the horizon] and I did have Telstra reception for most of that leg up to and past Moreton. It's not guaranteed though, and if they go a bit further out due to weather or something you'll lose it. Can you set your Voicemail to say you'll be in touch as soon as your reception returns? Definitely don't be making or receiving calls when you are outside range and on maritime satellite. $5/min to make OR receive calls. Texts 75c. Thanks Hellyes - much appreciated. Rare MicCanberra Posted January 7, 2016 #3 Share Posted January 7, 2016 We had phone reception (Telstra) on a sampler cruise for nearly all of the cruise bar a few hours when we cruised further away. As mentioned, I wouldn't count on being connected the whole time.
