Where to stay Houston or Galveston?

First time poster. I'm cruising in a couple of weeks to Western Caribbean. I'm flying into Houston (IAH) on Saturday, departing on Sunday from Galeston (Bayport). We arrive in Houston on Saturday about 5 PM. We would like to find a good place to eat (preferably BBQ) for dinner and some place for breakfast on Sunday before heading to the ship. We've never been to Texas and want some recommendations. Can someone help recommend the following?

 

1. Recommendation to stay in Houston or Galveston (or elsewhere).

2. Should we rent a car for the one day?

3. Hotel recommendation (around $200 give or take).

4. Place to eat BBQ on Saturday night?

5. Place to eat breakfast on Sunday morning?

 

Any others suggestion welcome.

Bayport IS NOT Galveston. Two different places. What cruise are you taking? Princess and NCL are at Bayport and Carnival and Royal Caribbean are at Galveston.

 

Let's get this settled and then the other questions can be considered.

I'm sorry I have never been to Texas so wasn't sure what it was called. I am cruising with Princess out of Bayport. Thanks for your help.

We stayed at the Seabrook Best Western last year. It's in easy driving distance of Kemah Boardwalk (lots of restaurants),and they serve a hot breakfast. They also have a package where you an leave your car there (we're from Texas, we drive) for the week you're gone. ($35? I think). It's about 5 minute to the port via them shuttle. We'll be doing the same this March.

 

You could also stay in Kemah. It's got an amusement park, lots of shopping/Etc.
