Murgat Posted January 22, 2016 #1 Share Posted January 22, 2016 I have been to New Caledonia for cruising and and based holidays but not in May. I am travelling with my aunt who will expect me to have advice on weather. There are web sites with monthly levels of precipitation, average temperatures etc but I would like to hear from others who have been there in May. E.g Is it warm enough to swim off the beach on the Isle of Pines? Thanks!
lagoon380 Posted January 22, 2016 #2 Share Posted January 22, 2016 I have been there twice in May, both times the weather was great and certainly warm enough to swim, high 20's temp wise.
Aus Traveller Posted January 22, 2016 #3 Share Posted January 22, 2016 Whether it is warm enough for you to swim in New Caledonia in May will depend on where you are from. I am from Queensland and it probably wouldn't be warm enough for me. New Caledonia is at a similar latitude to Rockhampton.
Kiwi_cruiser Posted January 22, 2016 #4 Share Posted January 22, 2016 We have cruise to New Caledonia in May, June, July, and we have always gone snorkelling at the Isle of Pines. There has been times, when the water has been a bit on the cool side at first but once your in it OK. What we have found with Isle of Pines is its better to go for a swim after 11am or latter, as the water has had a chance to warm up a bit then. Murgat Posted January 22, 2016 Author #5 Share Posted January 22, 2016 Thank you all. I am from Sydney where the water temp is at max 25 about what it seems to be in New Caledonia but it is what the water feels like. We will beach swim on Isle of Pines. I was disheartened by the damaged coral there on my last visit. I will aim for an afternoon ticket for Jinek Bay on Lifou and early afternoon beach day on Mystery Island.
