ALANG Posted January 22, 2016 #1 Share Posted January 22, 2016 Just wondering if anyone has had a recent experience using UBER from a EWR hotel such as Embassy Suites, Hilton etc. to Cape Liberty? Thank you in advance for your response. Alan
njhorseman Posted January 22, 2016 #2 Share Posted January 22, 2016 Using Uber in NJ puts you at risk of getting a driver without proper insurance or licensing as a car for hire. If you were unlucky enough to be injured in an accident you could find yourself without insurance coverage to compensate you for your injuries. As is the case in many places Uber in NJ operates on the fringes of legitimacy. I'd never use then in NJ. FYI, Uber is properly regulated in NY City and it's OK to use them there. whirlybird3 Posted April 17, 2016 #3 Share Posted April 17, 2016 We used Uber from EWR to a Hilton in NY. No problems and happy with the service.
njhorseman Posted April 17, 2016 #4 Share Posted April 17, 2016 We used Uber from EWR to a Hilton in NY. No problems and happy with the service. If you had been unfortunate enough to be injured in an accident while in your Uber car and then discovered the driver didn't have proper insurance you would have been responsible for paying your own medical bills. That would have been a real problem.
mjkacmom Posted April 17, 2016 #5 Share Posted April 17, 2016 We have used uber several times to get to Newark airport. We usually use the extra large option when we have more than 3 of us with checked luggage.
Post Captain Posted April 17, 2016 #6 Share Posted April 17, 2016 Just an update regarding the legal status of Uber in Newark. The mayor of Newark has announced a tentative deal that will allow Uber to operate in the city and at EWR; however, the agreement has not yet been formally approved by the city council. http://www.nj.com/essex/index.ssf/2016/04/newark_releases_new_details_of_tentative_agreeemen.html I should add that I have no personal experience using Uber in Newark, and I'm neither recommending Uber nor advising against it. As always, travelers should be alert and aware of safety considerations.
