First-Time Cruise on Adventure of the Seas...any advice for a n00b?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

My girlfriend has taken a couple of RCI cruises in the past, the last being 8 years ago. I, on the other hand, have never been on a cruise (2 years of sea service in the US Navy notwithstanding. :))

What are some things I should know?

Any advice for a first time cruiser?

I've read many of the reviews here on CC regarding the boat...and I realize that some people just like to bitch about anything...but some of them cause concern, lol! Let's just say I only read the positive ones, now. I also read BostonGo's trip report which was super-helpful.

Anyways, we're going mid-June, and have a Supreme Ocean View Balcony stateroom (#7378) which looks nice.

Looking forward to all of your responses!

Don't try to do too much, no need to plan every minute of each day. Leave some time for relaxation.

Take half the clothes and twice the money.

It's not so different than being in a resort hotel....albeit, with smaller rooms! Just go, explore and enjoy! You can do as much or as little as you want...it is a vacation, after all!

Hi ***,

We are on the same cruise. Be sure to join the roll call and then stop by and meet everyone on the first day of the cruise (time and place TBA). It's always fun when you know a few people on board.

Other Advice- be sure to bring on your 2 bottles of wine/champagne (if you drink wine), Get to the shows early for good seats, unless you are going on a shore excursion, wait a while for the lines/crowds to die down before disembarking at the ports, and finally, get to the San Juan port early ( ignore any emails that you receive about your emarbarking time) to make the most of your first day on board!

See you there - Beth
