Magic - 5 people in room

We are a family of 5, kids ages will be 15, 14, and 12 at the time of sailing. We've done a 5-person ocean view on previous cruise (fantasy class ship) when the kids were younger, and it was tight, but not horrible. I'm wondering how much more room there is in the Magic's deluxe ocean views. Now that the kids are older, will it work? Or should I go with connecting rooms, possibly cove balconies, instead?

Personally I would do connecting rooms. I think 5 is to tight in any room.

There will be much more room, and a split bath. I understand that on Magic and Breeze they placed the twins on the side wall instead of under the window...EM

The kids are bigger but the cabin is about the same size. You could do it but it is going to be EXTREMELY tight.

 

I would go with a second cabin but if you can take the close quarters then go for it.

Thanks for the advice, I'm leaning towards connecting coves. We've only ever had ocean views, so it will be nice to have the balcony. Not the cheapest option, but might keep us all more comfortable.

The cabins on the Magic, breeze, and dream are not great, b/c it doesnt give you the connecting king bed which stinks. Lets also not mention the location of those 5 person rooms haha.

 

If you ever need spot advise just ask away lol, Ive been in everyone of them lol

Just want to chime in that we are a family of 5 as well. We chose to book connecting rooms on the Magic when we went and have to say with teens/ preteens, it was well worth the money. Don't know how we would have done it all in just one room. I know those who say they do, but for us it wouldn't be feasible.

 

To have that second toilet was worth the extra money alone for that second balcony. We stayed in rooms 8440 and 8436 on the Magic and have to say it was very nice. No problems with smoke, no problems with noise from the Red Frog or the jacuzzi. great location to get back and forth quick to the pool and buffet. No issues with lots of people hanging in the halls. It was even better with the location as we could peek out and see if there was anyone in the hot tub before we went down. Most days there wasn't anyone in it.

 

Only you can say if a second room would be worth the money. But for us, being in a comfy room is all part of the experience of the vacation. And when the older teens were out really late doing club activities, we had one parent stay up waiting for them to return in one room, while the other parent slept in the room with the youngest so not to disturb.

 

We actually liked these rooms so much, we booked them a second time on our second trip on the Magic :)

I booked adjoining cabins for four people, and I agree with the above poster, so worth the $$ to have 2bd balcony, tv, and bathroom. Also was super helpful the 24 hours my son was sick, so he could be away from the others and they didn't have to share a room with a sick person. We are a family of 5 and rarely get one hotel room now. In the cruise, it was myself and the 3 kids. This was also on the Magic

I would definitely get 2 balcony rooms, but instead of adjoining rooms, get balconies where you can open the partition. Gives you a family sized balcony plus you can go back and forth using the balcony.

I do not recommend rooming with teenagers, I shared a room with my 14 year old brother on the Splendor and while it was great for the Cheers package (I was the only adult of legal drinking age) , it sucked cause teen age boys stink and are messy lol

 

But seriously 5 in a room would pretty tight especially when dressing for dinner....

I just booked the Magic for our family of 5 (myself and DH and our 3 daughters ages 12, 11, and 5). I could have done an oceanview room for 5 for just over $3k, which would have been on a lower deck (Riviera I think), or 2 interiors on Riviera for a bit less....$2800, or 2 interiors on Vista for just over $2900 (I was trying to keep this one under $3k, so I didn't look at other options). I went for the 2 interiors on Vista. It was actually cheaper to do that than the 5 in one oceanview room.

 

I went with the 2 rooms because no matter what room it is...5 is crowded when you're all together. And even with 1.5 bathrooms...you only have 1 toilet. 'Nuff said about that. We also strongly prefer being on a higher deck.

 

Who knows...I've had pretty good luck with getting calls from the upgrade fairy when we book 2 interiors. Last time we did that, we ended up in 2 balconies for just a couple hundred more (total). Probably won't happen, and we might not even go for it if it did...we're pretty happy on Vista (even in Interiors).

 

I'm also considering whether or not to get the Cheers package, though I probably don't drink enough to make it worthwhile. With 2 rooms, we would only have to pay for it for one of us. (DH always gets free drinks at the casino). Another advantage of 2 rooms!!

We also have five and always do a balcony room and an inside room directly across from us . Thus works very well.

I would not do 5 in anything unless it was a suite. Too many in such a small area.

I am the mother of 3 kids. They are all grown up now, but when they were younger we never attempted 5 of us in a room. The boys got their own cabin (they were 6 and 8 years older than their sister), and our daughter stayed with us next door.

5 in a room is not as horrible as some make it out to be. However, it probably wouldn't cost much more to get 2 rooms, so you might as well do that. In fact, for the cheapest & best possible option, down on deck 1-forward, there is a 3-person porthole rooms connecting to a 2-person OV (non-deluxe) room. On both sides of the ship. But these will probably be taken already unless there is plenty of time until your cruise.

 

If cost is a factor, and the above option isn't available, you could get connecting OVs, or an OV for you & an inside across the hall for them. Either of these options would be very comparable in price to a 5-person OV room. And by the way, there is nothing at all wrong with rooms down on decks 1 & 2. I have stayed on those decks countless times, and I like it better than being up high. It has many many advantages.

We have 5 in our family and we have done in an Ocean view room for 5 on the dream and leave Saturday with the same cabin on the Breeze. My boys are 14,13 and 9. I wasn't comfortable with the boys in a separate room and figured they would end up in my room and my husband would end up with a room to himself LOL. We priced two interiors, a balcony and an adjacent interior (there wasn't any available for us) and two balconies and it just didn't seem worth it for us. We didn't have any problems with the 5 of us in a room. We leave Saturday on the Breeze and I'm hoping we haven't out grown the 5 person cabin. As far as the location we didn't mind it all.
