Hubby and I want to get to a nice beach (someplace we can get lunch, rent snorkel equipment or jetskis, etc) where we can spend a few hours. We're not super beachy, but we don't want to do stingrays.

Anyway, can you walk me through how to get there... feel free to treat me like a child -- the more details the better so we have a nice experience and don't get lost. We didn't grow up with much public transportation.

Or should we just do the cruise excursion?

Thanks!

Hop on the local bus...it's about a block beyond the tender dock. Get off at Seagrape beach...they have everything you're looking for. The bus is $2.50 pp. So easy!

The buses will be stopping on the road (which is a VERY short walk from the beach) on a regular basis for the trip back to the tender.

You do NOT need an excursion at all!

When we were there a few weeks ago, this is what we did:

*Tender boat will take you from the ship to the island, dropping you off at a dock where there are a handful of little shops (it's a secured area, with fencing and a gate). Exit this area to the street. At the street, there will be a bunch of people selling various excursions; some will simply be offering a ride to the beach. Cost for that will be around $4 per person. We simply hopped on with one of them. They'll probably first stop at Royal Palms; it looked a little fancier than what we wanted so we continued a bit further down, to Calico Jacks. Nice beach area with loungers & umbrellas for rent; bar & restaurant. We had a couple of beers but no food there.

We did get a plate of jerk pork from a guy who had a grill set up by the parking lot; it was outstanding.

When ready to leave, there will be buses & taxis waiting by the entrance to Calico Jacks. Ride back is same price. Note, they'll likely wait until the bus is full before leaving.

100% agree with the above suggestions!

Calico Jacks is right next to Seagrapes Public Beach. If you purchase a drink from them, you can leave your things under their shaded picnic tables right on the beach. They have free wifi, changing rooms, and clean bathrooms at Calico's. Just tell the taxi van or public bus van you are in that you want to go to Calico Jack's.

I also second having a delicious jerk chicken lunch from Seymour's little food truck/ cart right there at the entrance to Calico's and Seagrapes. If they have rice and peas ( rice and red beans), try some of the that too :)
