St Petersburg is a long way, and as discussed here frequently, requires a visa to leave the port area.
kitkat343 Posted February 1, 2016 #4 Share Posted February 1, 2016 When it is closer to the summer, the ports will list which dock your ship will use, and this will affect whether or not you can easily reach the center of town independently. In St. Petersburg, you will need to either apply for a visa or go through a private tour or a ship tour to be let off the boat. The private tour companies are much less expensive and use smaller vehicles and have an easier time avoiding St. Petersburg traffic than the ship tours. Rare John Bull Posted February 1, 2016 #5 Share Posted February 1, 2016 Here's a link to your previous similar question (+ answers), in case you can't find it http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2308382 And a repeat that for St Petersburg you need to fix up a visa or a visa-free tour (the vast majority of folk opt for a simple and economic ship's or local operator's visa-free tour rather than a visa). Either option takes time, so don't delay too long. I see that your Estonia port is Muuga, rather than the usual Tallinn. I'm intrigued - what ship? kitkat343 Posted February 1, 2016 #6 Share Posted February 1, 2016 We booked our trip 6 weeks in advance, and contacted local tour operators prior to booking to ensure we would be able to see St. Petersburg. They stated that they would need 4 weeks to process the visa.
