loracgirl Posted January 31, 2016 #1 Share Posted January 31, 2016 I am planning on booking the Sunshine for 6/30. However, I had read some negative reviews about a bad smell on the ship. Has anyone been aboard lately that noticed this?

loracgirl Posted January 31, 2016 Author #3 Share Posted January 31, 2016 Yes, of course I read the positive ones, which is why I am considering booking this cruise. But if this is true, it outweighs all the positive reviews.
Cushing985 Posted January 31, 2016 #4 Share Posted January 31, 2016 Most ships have a fleeting odor but it certainly isn't pervasive. It's just the nature of the beast. We spent almost 2 weeks on the Sunshine and we probably smelled "something" once. It didn't stick around long enough to localize it.

summersigh Posted January 31, 2016 #6 Share Posted January 31, 2016 We were on her earlier in Jan in a balcony on Deck 7 toward the aft. We had no trouble with sewer odors. You could smell dinner cooking occasionally in the hallways but not in the cabin.
Austinettecruiser Posted February 1, 2016 #7 Share Posted February 1, 2016 Cushing 985, since you spent almost two weeks on the Sunshine, can you tell me how many "Formal Nights" there? We are leaving on the Sunshine for a 13 day cruise so I was wondering how/what,to pack. Than you.
sharse Posted March 31, 2016 #8 Share Posted March 31, 2016 Just got off an 8-nighter on the Sunshine and didn't once smell any sewer smells.

Rare CruisinCrow Posted March 31, 2016 #10 Share Posted March 31, 2016 I've smelled sewer smells on every single ship I've been on. It's usually in the cabin hallways (not the cabins) and it doesn't last the whole cruise. I think it's just a ship thing.
micabrooks Posted March 31, 2016 #11 Share Posted March 31, 2016 The Sunshine is one of my favorite ships. It's a little smaller but still has terrific areas like the Alchemy Bar, Guy's burgers, and Red frog Pub. No smells at all. I would absolutely book it! blessedwith12 Posted March 31, 2016 #12 Share Posted March 31, 2016 We were on the Sunshine for 8 days in January and I noticed the smell one night in the area around the photo gallery and library bar. Like others have said, I don't think it's anything unique to the Sunshine. While you didn't ask for opinions on other topics about the Sunshine, I'll still throw in a few for free. :) The variety of free choices for lunch are amazing. I think the food areas are set up very well and the lines weren't long and the area didn't seem crowded. The biggest negatives would be the crowding of the Serenity area and around the main pool. But, there are many places to enjoy the sun - we usually found a less crowded area along the sides.

Really liked the ship hi gonna be on deck 2 on 7/28/16 last minute booking in july for birthday cruise never been below deck 4 on any cruise line. How was it down there and did you have any noise above you? Was it crazy going back and forth up to the dining rooms.

I find it varies based on the number of Blue and Red card holders on the ship.
carsastic Posted May 15, 2016 #18 Share Posted May 15, 2016 Hmmmm random sewer smells , in hallways , not staying long .... I say you passed thru a crop dusted area :)
WLHyatt Posted May 15, 2016 #19 Share Posted May 15, 2016 I have smelled something on occasion on the ships. I can't say I've smelled it on every one I've been on, but it's been there once in a while on some of them. It's really not a lingering thing and you really don't notice it until you're back in the clear.
pcvtmom Posted May 15, 2016 #20 Share Posted May 15, 2016 I've been on the Sunshine twice and have YET to smell sewage. Love the ship, and won't hesitate to book her again, if the opportunity arises.
Jimmy Geegitz Posted May 15, 2016 #21 Share Posted May 15, 2016 We just got off the Sunshine last Sunday and the sewage smell is definitely there. We smelled it mostly in Ocean Plaza. Pretty much everyday. But not all day. Not sure why but usually a specific time of day late afternoon early evenings. Also randomly in the halls on deck 6. It's not overbearing but it is definitely noticeable. I wouldn't not book this ship because of it. Never affected our cruise at all really. Catrin Posted May 15, 2016 #22 Share Posted May 15, 2016 We were on the Sunshine four weeks ago. One afternoon, my son and I came out of our room, right by the aft elevator.. and something was AWFUL. We had to walk fast to the elevator and we looked at each other and said.. "What the heck was THAT????" Once we went up the elevator, we never smelled it, and never smelled it for the rest of the cruise. No idea what it was, but boy, was it pretty bad. Jimmy Geegitz Posted May 15, 2016 #23 Share Posted May 15, 2016 So really the smell is at the back(aft of the ship) never smelled it midship or front.
sfaaa Posted May 15, 2016 #24 Share Posted May 15, 2016 If this concerns you, book a balcony and you are guaranteed an unlimited supply of fresh air.
beachnsnowbunny Posted May 15, 2016 #25 Share Posted May 15, 2016 (edited) We are booked on the 6/30 cruise. The Sunshine is in the middle of a 2 week drydock now. So if there are any issues they should be fixed before she heads to NYC. We can't wait. 45 days to go :) Edited May 15, 2016 by beachnsnowbunny
