Allure 1/31 - 2/7

Recommended Posts

Just off the allure after a nice trip. We walked off at 6:30, through CBP by 6:45, at the airport by 7, and at the gate by 7:15. We were worried about having a 10 am flight, but it clearly was no problem this time.

We had an aqua suite this time because of the upswell fairy calling us 3 days before the cruise. We loved it, but it seemed crazy for 2 people to have a suite that can fit 8 people. It will be hard going back to a regular room after having the suite, but we can't afford a suite all the time. Great location for all the different shows in the aqua theatre. I think we saw the diving show 3 times and it was great for all the other shows.

We went to Sabor, Samba, Johnny Rockets, and Izumi for specialty restaurants. The only disappointment was Samba. Dry meat! Nowhere near the quality of any of the land based restaurants I have been to. Izumi was really good, just as good as any land based similar restaurant.

Our dining room service was mediocre to bad the evenings we ate there. Very slow, forgetting things, not getting bread, not getting water refilled. All 6 of us at the table agreed that it was the worst service we have had on a ship. We don't normally complain but we did when our head waiter asked if everything was okay. After that night the head waiter helped out with our table, which made things run more smoothly.

What cabin did you have originally booked? We sail October and have an OS. I figured there wasn't anything they could offer me on an upsell better so consideration wasn't even on the radar. However, if they called with an offer for an Aqua I might have to consider it. What was the cost for the upsell?

Thanks for the feedback on disembarkation. Many folks ask about this.

Walked off the ship at 9am, picked up luggage and then almost a 40 minute wait in line for customs. The porters no longer have their own line for customs so hardly worth getting one unless you need help with luggage. Lack of custom agents no fault of Royal Caribbean but still very annoying.

Why in the world didn't you eat at Coastal Kitchen instead of the diNing room? It was excellent. As a suite holder, you were entitled to eat there.

Agree, so much nicer venue, views to the outside, and excellent service.

Vanrrr not sure about any drink specials.

Jamesr3939. We had a D8 balcony originally and they called us with the upsell 3 days before we sailed. The cost was $1050 to upgrade, so we only paid around $3400 TOTAL for the suite that sleeps 8. A great deal for sure!

There was not a ten drink offer. We were hoping as we didn't get a drink package. Good decision for us. We drank off ship on port days. Also we did the self disembark but on our own timeline. We didn't leave our room till 10:15 am, took elevator down and out with our roll away luggage. If you do this you just get in line for customs right away. Quick cab to the airport. Windjammer had great food. First time cruisers. Thanks to all cruise critic posters who were very informative. Booked a next cruise onboard for 100 bucks off which we used for current obc. Packed too many clothes. Ate too much. Got too much sun. Made friends. Now we are back home unpacking.

Also good to know, public bathrooms are port side (left) boys and starboard side (right) girls. You can get something to eat at the wipe out cafe deck 16 in your bathing suit. Blue pool towels that you leave in your room on the floor will be picked up by your room Stewart. Just be sure to go to towel guy up top to have him delete them from your sea pass. I had 3 lobster tails on formal night and did not wear a suit coat. Different bars have different beers. We were up at the casino. Saw flying fish and Dolphins !!! Ship horn blast off with another ship in port.

CNN on tv would occasionally show no signal. Suprising. Wonder if internet also lost connection. American sitcom shows in foreign languages were fun to watch !! Floor tile sign on elevator shows what day it is. Funny cause on Thursday we thought it was still Wednesday so it was helpful. Still was getting turned arround on day before last day. (Deck six doesn't go through). Muster drill ran late so when we got back to room we were surprised that we had already left port !! And underway !!

We were on this sailing also. Just a few thoughts I will share. We are in our early 50's and Diamond status. We arrived at the port at 12 and had one of our longest waits to board out of our 13 RC cruises. We usually arrive around 1:30 or 2 and I think maybe 12 is just peak time for arrival. Usually we arrive around 1:30 or 2 pm and wait is 15 mins or so. It was a slow disembarkation too. I heard there were not enough Custom agents working that day. It took about 45 mins. Or longer. We ate at 2 Specialty restaurants for the first time,. Chops was good but we didn't think it was worth the $78 charge. Our dining time was 6:00pm, which was a first for us too, usually we do late seating, but wanted to try earlier time. It was a little too early and we didn't make it on the days we were in port late. We had a table for two and were happy with the main dining room food even though it was slow service at times. We also ate at Johnny Rockets for breakfast and lunch and it was good. Tried the Mexican rest. Across from Johnny Rockets ( can't think of name) and really enjoyed it. The guacamole was excellent. The total bill was $25 and was def. worth it. All the shows were excellent esp Mama Mia. Went to Atlantis in Nassau and did aquarium and beach on our own which was nice. Took the ferry from the ship, which we booked through the ship, to St. John and had a great tour of the island that we found on our own once we arrived there. It is a beautiful Island! In St. Maarten we did the Catamaran snorkel tour, booked thr ship, Golden Eagle. It was awesome. We had a wonderful trip and highly recommend it. Forgot to add the ship is beautiful too!
