Jccruiser28 Posted February 8, 2016 #251 Share Posted February 8, 2016 I feel for all on board. Supposed to leave this Saturday on Anthem, doesn't look like that's going to happen
pabi Posted February 8, 2016 #252 Share Posted February 8, 2016 This thread started out with people really caring about those onboard. And it has turned into people condemning a man without knowing all the facts. That makes me sad. To those onboard - I am praying for your safety. As for me, checking out of this thread that has taken a turn for the worse (kind of like the storm)....perhaps I should have been able to predict it! Totally agree with you... I am checking out this thread too... Hope no serious injuries have occurred. Too sad that people condemn others without true knowledge of events... ...signing off this thread now ! pjnj40 Posted February 8, 2016 #254 Share Posted February 8, 2016 Hope everyone onboard is safe and sound. Remember nature can do anything she want without warning, especially changing her mind in weather.
Mere828 Posted February 8, 2016 #255 Share Posted February 8, 2016 So you joined Cruise Critic today just to armchair quarterback the ship's captain. I can understand the people onboard at the time of the storm being upset but you really have no excuse. Back to your bridge with you. I sure did just join today. I believe the cruiseline made a bad judgement error by taking the ship through the storm and risking the chance of it being a moderate to bad vs. an extremely dangerous storm to stay on their timeline. KarinaGW Posted February 8, 2016 Author #256 Share Posted February 8, 2016 What do you mean ? Are there no life jackets in the cabins ? As much as l am dubious about some of what he's pposted, in this instance he is correct. I was fairly appalled to read on the back of my door that my life jacket is at my muster station which is inside a room with a wall of glass. meredithlaine Posted February 8, 2016 #257 Share Posted February 8, 2016 Prayers and hugs for everyone on board. We are due to board in two weeks for our wedding, I'm curious as to if all will be well by then.
BND Posted February 8, 2016 #258 Share Posted February 8, 2016 I think he meant that he/she was disembarking tomorrow. Not all the passengers. No, they said disembarking and "ship is too damaged to continue", but no one else has confirmed that.

lafan42 Posted February 8, 2016 #260 Share Posted February 8, 2016 Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone on Anthem of the Seas and we hope everyone will be safe and can enjoy the rest of the cruise free of any more bad weather. We hope the ship does not have to much damage and we can still enjoy our cruise on the 21st. Again, be safe everyone.
tripkat Posted February 8, 2016 #261 Share Posted February 8, 2016 I'm pretty much bypassing any posts second guessing RC and the captain. This storm appears to have turned into something no one was predicting...and pretty quickly too. I feel awful for everyone on board that went through this. Was hoping that damage was minimal but if folks are truly disembarking tomorrow, I'm sure we'll be seeing some unfortunate photos and videos. rymilburn Posted February 8, 2016 #262 Share Posted February 8, 2016 There has been no official report or anything. In fact, the last update said they will update us at 8am tomorrow. Winds are stil at 70knots. Not sure how anyone can sleep. I sure can't.

BND Posted February 8, 2016 #264 Share Posted February 8, 2016 (edited) Obviously a bad storm for everyone but did the Capt say almost a 45 degree list? I find that hard to believe, the ship would have been completely on it's side at 45 degrees. Even a 25 degree list would be very substantial on a cruise ship.. That said prayers for everyone's safety. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD Nope, no way a 45 degree list. Every Captain's Corner we've been at and this has come up, the ships are designed to take something like a 12 degree list (I think that's what was said) and that's the worst they usually expect to see. This poster has posted some questionable info on this and the other thread. I think people would be surprised at what even a 5 or 6 degree list is and how it would feel. Arizona Laura Posted February 8, 2016 #265 Share Posted February 8, 2016 Too early to condemn Captain and RCL till facts in. I feel so sad for passengers for it really is every cruisers nightmare. If passengers experienced heart attacks how stressful that has to be for them and families.
KarinaGW Posted February 8, 2016 Author #266 Share Posted February 8, 2016 (edited) So, the last update for the night (barring any negative turn of events) said that the seas had not subsided significantly, but that the barometer was continuing to rise very slowly.he anticipates being able to move the ship sometime after 1am. Since things seem to be still heading in a positive-ish direction, he will stay off the P.A. for the rest of the night so we can rest as best we can. Should another announcement come before morning, I will post it here. Edited February 8, 2016 by KarinaGW
Mere828 Posted February 8, 2016 #267 Share Posted February 8, 2016 Could you clarify what corners you thought were cut on your cruise? Just curious. Various reasons. I thought it was extremely cheap of them to only gave us a small shipboard credit for one night lost - we paid more for that one night than the credit. Not to mention the enormous itinerary change and the decisions they made around that. Also because of Jonas, the supplies were missed and they had to pick up supplies at other ports so when we ate at Chops, a paid restaurant, they served us sub par steaks and wheat bread (this was towards the end of the cruise so they probably were running low on supplies). My last 2 nights I tried ordering salads at Silk and the vegetables were old and slimey. I love cruises and we are diamond members with RC, also we were on the Quantum last year and have always had wonderful expiriences, however this particular trip it felt like they really cheaped out. DanJ Posted February 8, 2016 #269 Share Posted February 8, 2016 Wait what?? There aren't vests in your closet? I have not sailed RCCL but have Celebrity, Princess, NCL and a line in the Mediterranean and sell had our vests in the closet in our room. The Oasis doesn't have life vests in the cabins either. No real reason to, you go to the muster station anyway, so no need to waste time going to the cabin, or people tripping over life vest straps on the way. The life jackets are kept at the muster stations just like on Oasis class. Been that way for a while now. 2CruzAddicts Posted February 8, 2016 #273 Share Posted February 8, 2016 Sounds like this was completely avoidable....I wonder if the Captain is going to be replaced. I would seriously question his judgment on this one. Not trying to Monday morning quarterback it, he obviously thought he had some favorable conditions...but it will be interesting to see how Royal Caribbean responds. Hope everyone onboard is safe. Suggest you take a look at the live radar readings on this storm. There is no way this storm could have been avoided once they were underway and even if they'd known it was going to escalate to this degree and delayed leaving Bayonne the way it's tracking they would have run into it further north which could have been much worse. This is not a green Captain and they don't make these decisions without consulting with the Coast Guard, weather specialists and Royal Caribbean and their first concern would be for the safety of the passengers and the ship and no decision would have been entered into lightly and would have been based on the safest course of action. We've been through a couple of crazy storms off the Carolinas and even watched an amazing medi-vac during one and the skills of the Captain and navigational crew and that of the Coast Guard pilots was something to marvel at. With thousands of lives at risk, there is a lot of responsibility on this Captain's (and his crew's) shoulders so please don't criticize unless you've walked a mile in their shoes. :(
