Carnival Liberty Dry-Dock Nov/Dec 2016

Passengers from the late November and early to mid-December sailings on the Carnival Liberty are being shuffled over to the Freedom, and they actually had to cancel one of the Freedom cruises to accommodate the change as the Liberty will be going to Dry Dock. Seems that they would normally plan these things out before booking the cruises, rather than changing things around less than a year before the sailing (other than for urgent repairs). My sailing on the Liberty is actually after the ship is due back from dry-dock, but still makes me a little nervous as to what happens if they don't get the work done in time.

Anyone know what the reason for the dry-dock is?

You should be fine. The actual dates of the Carnival Liberty Dry Dock are 12/01/16 - 12/16/16

Thanks for the dates! Was hoping it wouldn't be during my cruise the week of the Nov 14th. Looking forward for to sailing away on the Liberty.

I cruised Liberty in January of this year, and in my opinion, she is LONG overdue for dry dock. The one thing that stood out the most is that the aft pool is TOE. UP. The...lining?...is peeling off in several places and there is rust galore. I didn't even want to get in. She seemed generally dingy and tired all over the place.

We were on Liberty in 2014 & she looked fine HOWEVER after the issues in the last several months I am really surprised they're not getting her in sooner to go over mechanics & get things straightened out.

They plan cruise schedules 2+ years in advance. Shipyard only schedules about a year, and carnival has to take what they can from the shipyard. While they are a large client of the yard, they have larger clients (container ships, cargo ships, tanker).

We cruised Liberty in October 2014 and January 2016 and I was amazed at how much she had deteriorated in just a little over a year. She was A+ in 2014, and then back in January she was beyond awful. There has seemed to be quite a few problems...I'm happy she's getting refreshed!

I'm booked on her for the first sailing after dry dock December 17. Anyone have any experience in first sailing after dry dock like embarking possibly earlier etc

Actually, depending on where the drydock is performed. CCL, RCCL and grand Bahama shipyard are all partners in the Bahama drydock facilities in FREEPORT. So they get first pick for schedule. They do not drydock ships during the busy summer season for business reasons and because of hurricane season... As for other facilities, they might be more at the mercy of the facility.

Just spoke with Ann at CCL.....she says that Liberty is going into drydock JANUARY 3, 2017.....so all the sailings in 2016 are 'safe' !! We too are booked the end of Nov-Dec sailing and were concerned as we have heard nada....and that is why!

Well I should hope she is not dry docking January 3rd since you can book a cruise on her for January 2nd. I believe Ann at CCL is mistaken as there are no sailings dec 1 thru dec 16.

Oh no! We booked our first cruise on the Liberty heading our December 17, 2016. Now I am reading that even if they are finished with the dry dock, normally things do not run smoothly the first sailing.

Anyone have any advice? Should we cancel and rebook?:(:(:(

We booked just a month ago for the January 9, 2017 sailing on the Liberty, so I would think that the January 3rd dry dock mentioned above isn't true. I am very glad the renovations will take place just a few weeks before we sail though!

We just got back yesterday from a 5-day on the Liberty. The ship is beautiful and we didn't notice anything that would constitute people saying she is in shambles. We did see a few of the booths on the Lido that need new kickplates, paint on wood, etc... but honestly, that is normal wear and tear. I had read there that she was going to drydock at the end of the year, so we all did look.... and it was all basic cosmetic stuff. Maybe there is some mechanical upgrades that need to be done, but the public areas all looked great.

My only, and my DH's only complaint was there is no Red Frog Pub, just a Jazz bar across from the Alchemy bar. My DH loves the RFP and missed it. We looked in that other bar, the Jazz bar, a few times and it was always dead. RFP would have been hopping, no pun.

As I said... we thought the ship was beautiful... loved the decor and detail everywhere.

I will have a trip report after I recover, get photos loaded, etc. Give me a few days. We had a BLAST and our captain kept us out of the hurricane path. It was a perfect trip!

DH, kids and I are also on this sailing. I am hoping it is SMOOTH sailing and ON TIME. We got a GREAT deal on this unique 6 day sailing when we booked nearly 2 years ago so I am really hoping and praying for a GREAT cruise!

Hi amlord, Every ship has to go in for routine maintenance and what they call refitting. They update them and make them more modern and add new additions. Such as a Serenity deck, if the ship does not have one or update and make nicer and bigger water slides. Maybe a big screen TV on the pool deck. Update the casino, such things as that.

This takes about 4 to 6 weeks.

I'm glad the ship is going in for dry-dock. Not that it's in bad shape, but I like my the idea of my favorite ship looking fresh again.

I was on the ship last November and do agree that the aft pool was then in considerable need of resurfacing and retiling.

I wonder if they will install the Red Frog Pub. Seems to be a new standard now for the other Conquest Class ships and I'm willing to bet Glory would receive the same the next year for its dry dock. Fingers crossed they add one!
