Cigars on Valor?

Carnival Valor

Smoking is permitted in designated areas of the following outdoor open decks: Deck 3 (forward, port side) and Deck 11 (port side)

Note: Cigar and tobacco pipes are only permitted in the above designated outdoor open decks

Thanks for the info. Odd they'd have a bar named for a known lover of the Havana export and force his disciples out into the elements. Hoping there is a covered area with bar service on Port deck 11.

Wondering too if they host a cigar under the stars event during an 8 night cruise.

The cigar bar USED to be just that and what you are looking for. But when they changed the smoking rules 4 or so years ago, all the cigar bars suddenly became non smoking. (yes someone was not thinking) On several of the Conquest class ships and the destiny class ships, the jazz club/bar next to the comedy club on deck 5 became an indoor smoking venue and a cigar bar. They even have humidors and a cigar and whiskey flight special. From the above post it would indicate that the Valor does not have this. Maybe it got re purposed for something else on the last drydock. I would check into it once on board just in case...

Not sure what going to happen during the drydock, but on deck 11 the smoking area had nice loungers and sofas like the serenity deck and yellow umbrellas. And ashtrays. No bar service, but a short climb down tot he Lido bars. If it's raining, which it rained every day on our cruise, there is an over hang from deck 12. Not much but something, if you have to have a puff. I stumbled upon it looking for a quiet spot on a day when all the serenity deck clam shells were taken. As a non-smoker I left in a hurry, but I thought it was a better set up than most ships have for smokers.

And speaking of smokers, while waiting for the pier trolley in Costa Maya, under a drenching rain, we saw a vaper puffing away outside the tent. Guess she couldn't wait until she was back on the ship.

Interesting, I hope it stays the same. We won't be "Jonesing", we just enjoy a fine cigar after dinner and few nights during a cruise. At home I probably smoke an average of 12 per year.

Hi there. I was on the Valor for a week in November of last year. There was a cigar bar and lounge on deck 5 called Paris Hot. Not only can you bring your own cigar to smoke in there, they also have a humidor and cigar list to purchase your own. I don't know if that will change after the Valor goes into dry dock or not, but the smoking area on deck 11 is very nice and large. Either way, enjoy your cruise! The Valor is a beautiful ship :)

Wow, thanks for the info! Fingers crossed for me and the old man that those things won't change after the refurb and upgrades.

I'm sorry to be the messenger, but we were on the Valor January 23rd and the Paris Hit bar aka cigar bar was discounted as a smoking bar :( our cruise was the first sailing of this change ... My BF was so excited to be able to smoke his cigars in a nice inside lounge without the wind on deck.

  • 4 months later...

We just returned off the Victory (June 30th cruise), and the Black and Red Seas Jazz Lounge is also non-smoking. We booked this ship, along with the Valor (December 22 cruise), because of the indoor cigar lounges. My brother in-law sealed on the Valor last year, and raved about the cigar bar. He's going to be upset to find out about the change. On the Victory, we made good use of the smoking area on Deck 10. It really wasn't windy on any of our days, and we couldn't have asked for better weather on our sea day (my birthday, July 2nd) which was a three cigar day for me. Now I'm going to have to research a little better in finding ships that still had dedicated cigar bars/lounges.

We were on Conquest a few months ago and enjoyed a bottle of wine and a cigar several nights on Deck 11. The setup is actually quite nice...

good to know - will be there in 17 days!

On a related note, as an inexperienced cigar smoker (quit cigs 13 years ago but have 3 or 4 cigars a year and usually screw it up lol) who wants to, at the very least, get something in Cozumel and/or Roatan to smoke, what's the best way to keep the cigar fresh until I get back on board? It seems I must buy crap in St Augustine when we go there because I've bought both locally hand-rolled and name brand and it always seems dry and stale unless I smoke it immediately. Plastic bags don't seem to last me more than a day or two before they get bad (or, I'm just not good at picking cigars lol).

I never have this problem at home where I have a good store nearby and I just go get a cigar and head over to my kids' house for scotch and cigars. But when I'm out on my own I blow it.

I'm not even caring if it's "Cuban" cigars. I'd just like to get a nice cigar or two and enjoy them on the ship after dinner with a few drinks.

So any tips y'all have will be memorized and appreciated.

So far the best cigar I ever had was an Arturo Fuente Hemingway at the Tampa Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. It was moist and fresh and tasted terrific. I've also had some good 858s but that one was the best.

Get a small travel humidor and a boveda pack for humidification.

Thanks that looks like a cool getup. I'll definitely get something like that. Just got back today from our cruise and I did find a decent cigar in Grand Cayman and enjoyed it up top in a shady spot on Conquest. I'll need that portable rig for future cruises.
