AussieKathy Posted February 21, 2016 #1 Share Posted February 21, 2016 UDP on NCL Europe cruises I have read that if you are 18 years old you can drink alcohol beverages on European cruises my question is can you get the UDP that it being included in the cruises Drinking age in Australia and Europe is 18 years old. Sauer-kraut Posted February 21, 2016 #2 Share Posted February 21, 2016 ALCOHOL CONSUMPTION POLICY Passengers must be 21 years of age or older to purchase or consume alcohol. With the exception of Alaska and Hawaii itineraries, Norwegian permits young adults to purchase and personally consume wine and beer only while onboard and with the consent of an accompanying parent. Authorization will be given only when the accompanying parent completes the Young Adult Alcoholic Beverage Waiver form. This form can be obtained and completed at the Guest Services Desk upon embarkation of the vessel. However, passengers 18 years of age or older are permitted to consume beer and wine when sailing on round-trip European voyages without having to complete the Young Adult Alcoholic Beverage Waiver form. So if there is UBP involved they can only get beer and wine.

Anyone had an experience getting the UDP for 18 year olds? As someone else posted, it's 21 for the package. UDP is the dining package which you can get for an 18-year-old, but obviously you're asking about UBP (Ultimate Beverage Package). :D
Demonyte Posted February 21, 2016 #4 Share Posted February 21, 2016 It does not matter if the drinking age on specific itineraries is 18, the age limit on all alcoholic packages is still 21. So no passenger under 21 can get UBP or even Corks and Caps. https://www.ncl.com/terms/ultimate-beverage-package https://www.ncl.com/terms/corks-and-caps-package

Orleanscruiser Posted February 21, 2016 #7 Share Posted February 21, 2016 The 18 yr old CAN drink on the cruise but will not be allowed to purchase any beverage package. only in Europe c) Guests under 21: Any Guest under 21 years of age is considered a minor. On US trips they can also drink beer and wine with just with the signed waiver from the parent. My brother did this with his son on a Caribbean cruise this summer. No need for all the legalese when a simple yes or no would suffice for the original question.

hawkeyetlse Posted February 21, 2016 #10 Share Posted February 21, 2016 So no passenger under 21 can get UBP or even Corks and Caps. The beverage package terms in the UK and in Europe say that young adults (18-20) are allowed to purchase the Corks & Caps package on European itineraries. As a consequence of this, on European cruises, if someone in the stateroom buys the UBP, then all young adults in the cabin must purchase the Corks & Caps package… However, the promotional UBP is still downgraded all the way down to the soda package for all guests under 21. The OP was asking about the UBP, and has everyone else has said, that is definitely not available for anyone under 21, on any itinerary, whether it's purchased or included as a booking perk. littlelulu01 Posted February 22, 2016 #13 Share Posted February 22, 2016 our 20 year old was given the soda package and not made to purchase the corks and caps but adults had UBP as a perk on Europe sailing. They are very strict about the process. Daughter's now boyfriend who she met onboard, turned 21 the day after he got on the ship. He and his cabin partner had UBP however he was given a soda sticker and not allowed to change even though he had the perk. I know he tried to share roommates UBP and got caught pretty quickly. I think the threat was that if they did it again the UBP would be taken from roommate as well and they would be getting a bar bill for every drink consumed. My 20 year old could purchase alcoholic drinks with no need to sign waiver. Just no UBP.
