Solstice - RT from Seattle to Alaska

Can anyone tell me if there are any ports in which the ship is tendered at the Alaskan ports? Thanks.

If the ship stops at Icy Point or Sitka they use tenders. Sometimes the Solstice has to anchor in Juneau and use tenders,

Icy Point is currently building a cruise pier for completion in 2016 or 2017.

There is a rumor that a private company has built a pier for cruise ships.

On the Solstice Round trip, the only time they used tenders was in Juneau and it was every other week. Can't tell you this year which weeks tender and which don't. We were lucky when we went as we docked.

We were on the "tender" week and it was painfully slow at best. We barely made it to our Celebrity-sponsored excursion.

The construction of the floating dock at Icy Strait Point/Hoonah was started last summer. The construction company had hoped to complete it last fall but I don't know if they achieved that goal. But the dock, which was funded by the Huna Totem corporation, is expected to be in use this summer. I haven't checked lately but the Juneau Empire has covered the construction and the controversy regarding the location of that dock. Just use "google" to find photos.

A dock was built in Sitka north of the downtown area. While some ships continue to tender others are using that dock. When we did a late season Alaska cruise on the Century in 2013 the Century used that dock. My understanding is that it is privately owned. Celebrity provided a no additional fee shuttle to downtown Sitka.

Where does one find the "cruise ship calendar", so one can check?

The Cruise Line Agencies of Alaska publishes a schedule on their website (http://www.claalaska.com). While I have never found it to be inaccurate a poster several years ago (who was a frequent poster but I haven't seen a post by this person in several years) felt that it was inaccurate at times.
