Princess currency exchange

I booked a last minute cruise in about a week. I know I have read on princess threads, that princess' exchange rate is bad BUT my cruise includes cozumel, which I have been to many many times. The last two times, the currency exchange rate favored the usd much more. Today it's 18 to 1 BUT in cozumel MOST local retailers and port merchants STILL only give the price quoted in a 10 to 1 ratio. I've read princess does exchange my usd-Cash (not bill my folio account) into mxn peso with a $3.50 service fee..... any idea as to there current exchange rate.

Tks for the help

I use a bank ATM where you get the best exchange rate. I have never seen or heard of anyone converting USD to MXN. I just looked at the exchange rate is 18.1743 pesos to $1. Depending on what you buy, going to the trouble of exchanging currency in Coz is probably not worth it. The merchants in Coz bargain so never pay the first price (or even the third!).

The only time I exchanged currency was when I was spending a week in Coz diving. They have the best reef in the Americas.

Not my experience in the last couple of years. Usually what they use is close to the current official rate.

If you use a credit card that has no fee for foreign transactions, the charge will be made in pesos (illegal to make them in US$) and your bank will do the conversion without extra fees being added.

And don't think about getting pesos from an ATM machine there. Almost every ATM machine in Cozumel only dispenses US $ and adds a fee for doing it.
