tag1000 Posted March 4, 2016 #26 Share Posted March 4, 2016 I have taken my dogs twice on the QM2 from NYC to Southampton (and back of course). Not to worry about the tapeworm. It must be given to the dog within 5 days of boarding the ship in NYC(although I believe have an exception. To increase this to 7 days but try explaining that to the vet who signs off the papers). As we North Americans can not get a passport an EU 3rd Country Vet Certificate must be completed(believe that is the correct official name). My local vet completed it and gave the dogs the tape worm. The certificate is very detailed in terms of recording the microchip and all the rabies details. After my vet completed it I drove to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency stamped the papers. They have the official government vet who can certify the paperwork and make sure it is order. It can be nerve wracking simply because our government vet could not get past the idea that the dogs were going by ship and did not like the tape worm timing. In NYC, Cunard goes over the paperwork in detail. They check the microchip and the Kennel Master will come down to escort the dogs up to deck 12. Our Kennel Mastet was Oliver. He was super fantastic. Very caring and the dogs loved him. The dogs loved it. No inspection of the dogs by DEFRA in the UK that I have experienced (although they do random inspections). You just walk right off and away you go. All this to say start discussions with your vet early and ensure they have experiencing with filling out the paperwork. Fogfog Posted March 4, 2016 Author #27 Share Posted March 4, 2016 Thanks everyone Yes the docs are specific and the timing of shots can vary --For example my dog has a 3 yrs rabies shot and would not need a new one--Just the doc saying it was done and the blood titre proving it's in his system. I would guess once we get off in Hamburg --then we'd need to get a vet in the EU to do the Pet passport.
Fogfog Posted March 4, 2016 Author #28 Share Posted March 4, 2016 How about a repositioning cruise to a country slapdash?:) as best as we can tell... the QM2 is the only ship option ...

If you're interested in what the QM2 kennels were like ten years ago, read my sebastian at sea blogspot. Thank you so very much. We hope that this will be a long relationship with Cunard and a regular method for us to get back and forth to the EU
moinmoin Posted March 9, 2016 #31 Share Posted March 9, 2016 We have been on a TA last year and have seen how nicely the dogs were treated and taken care of. It looked like they were pretty fine up there. Attached two photos (hope this works).
